Virus Power Point

(0)
Viruses often boggle young students' minds. They are not living so can not be called dead. This power point goes over the reasons viruses are not categorized as living, explains their methods for reproduction, the lytic and lysogenic cycles. HIV reproduction in the human body is covered in detail along with the five drugs used in its treatment. There are a few slides dedicated to Ebola / Marburg, why they are hard to find and how the primate population of the world is being affected. The latest Zika virus is also presented and why it is detrimental to developing babies in the womb. Multiple common viruses are also displayed and discussed. Students will be able to distinguish viruses from living things and understand their methods of reproduction. Students will also be able to identify viruses based on their structure. Students will also understand that viruses infect all forms of life.

The student is expected to: (A) compare and contrast prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells; (B) investigate and explain cellular processes, including homeostasis, energy conversions, transport of molecules, and synthesis of new molecules; and (C) compare the structures of viruses to cells, describe viral reproduction, and describe the role of viruses in causing diseases such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and influenza. (5) Science concepts. The student knows how an organism grows and the importance of cell differentiation. The student is expected to: (A) describe the stages of the cell cycle, including deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) replication and mitosis, and the importance of the cell cycle to the growth of organisms; (B) examine specialized cells, including roots, stems, and leaves of plants; and animal cells such as blood, muscle, and epithelium; (C) describe the roles of DNA, ribonucleic acid (RNA), and environmental factors in cell differentiation; and (D) recognize that disruptions of the cell cycle lead to diseases such as cancer. Cell Memory Game Black and White

(0)
This is a black and white memory game focused on cells. Students need to match the picture and word with the definition. Cell organelles, states of osmosis, four eukaryotic kingdoms, two prokaryotic kingdoms and specialized cells are covered. There are 42 pairs for a total of 84 cards. You can make smaller games to best suit your class needs. It can also be used to make studying flashcards. The cards are square and saved as a pdf. By adjusting your page count per printed page you can adjust the size of your cards. I suggest laminating them and keeping them year after year. I use one set per lab table. So I printed 7 sets. You can have the students compete within a single table or between groups. These are the pairs in the memory game: General Animal Cell General Plant Cell General Fungus Cell General Protist Cell (euglena) Nucleus Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum Lysosome Peroxisome Ribosome Golgi Apparatus Flagella Cilia Microvilli Special Animal Cells (4 pairs) Animal and Plant Osmosis cells (6 pairs) Special Plant Cells (3 pairs) Special Fungus cells (2 pairs) Special Protist cells (3 pairs) Prokaryotes (2 pairs) Sex cells Endocytosis and exocytosis *All artwork is hand drawn by me and available in color or black & white in a separate listing. * I have a color cell memory game available in a separate listing.
