Energy and the Electromagnetic Spectrum Power Point

(0)
The power point covers the electromagnetic spectrum, light, photons, waves and their characteristics. the relationship between frequency, wavelength, and the speed of light are introduced with the formula for speed of light. Calculating the energy of the electromagnetic waves is also covered with introduction to Planck's constant and the energy formula derived using the constant. How we see light is presented along with slides for each type of electromagnetic ray and how they can affect human health. I also have a slide on cosmic rays since they have the most energy of all electromagnetic rays.

Classification of Matter: Chemistry Writing Task Cards

(0)
It is important to promote writing across the disciplines. Sometimes it is difficult to come up with writing prompts. These task cards are specific to secondary science and they cover Chemistry: Classification of Matter. This activity can be used as a bell ringer, pop quiz or closing. It is a good exercise to make the brief students write longer and the novel writers write shorter answers. There are 31 writing prompts with instructions as to how many sentences they should write. You can adjust the pages per sheet setting to print multiple cards per sheets of paper.

RNA Graphic Organizer Foldable for Interactive Notebook

(1)
The RNA foldable chronologically covers the properties of RNA as they were discovered. The differences of the structure of ribose and deoxyribose and the differences between DNA and RNA nucleotides. Students will learn how to transcribe DNA into RNA and the function of the three types of RNA: messenger RNA, transfer RNA and ribosomal RNA. The RNA foldable requires one sheet of paper and easily fits into a composition notebook or spiral notebook. The teacher key is included. An excellent prep-lesson to protein synthesis.

Asylum Lab Safety and Equipment Memory Game

Asylum Lab Safety and Equipment Memory Game

(0)
A edgy take on lab safety and equipment review. Many times we repeat the same lab safety and equipment reviews every year. Make it creepy with the Asylum Lab Safety and Equipment Memory game. The students will need to match 25 pairs of cards. One card has a description and the students need to match it with a picture or explanation. The game allows the students to continuously review lab safety and equipment while having fun and being competitive. The cards are square and saved as a pdf. By adjusting your page count per printed page you can adjust the size of your cards. I suggest laminating them and keeping them year after year. I use one set per lab table. You can have the students compete within a single table or between groups.

It is important to promote writing across the disciplines. Sometimes it is difficult to come up with writing prompts. These task cards are specific to secondary science and they cover biochemistry. There are writing prompts for the four biomolecule groups, enzymes, water and the elements that make up life. I have included the prompts in the power point format and pdf file format so you can choose which file you would like to use. By adjusting the page settings during printing you can print 6 or 8 prompts per page. This activity can be used as a bell ringer, pop quiz or closing. It is a good exercise to make the brief students write longer and the novel writers write shorter answers. There are 35 writing prompts with instructions as to how many sentences they should write. You can edit the power point file to adjust the sentence requirements.

This Plant Kingdom has two plant kingdom power points. One goes over the anatomy and traits of plants, then covers each plant clade (group) individually and their characteristics,. The plant clades or sequenced in evolutionary order and there is a chart included for the students to fill out while covering the power point. The plant clades are mosses, ferns, gymnosperms: conifers, gingkos, cycads, and angiosperms. The second power point goes over special topics in plants such as tropisms and adaptations. There is a third power point called Plant questions, you can do these as a whole class or upload them to a website so students can work on the questions individually or in pairs. There is one plant question per slide and they all have photographs or diagrams to help the students answer correctly. The last file is a set of writing task cards which covers all the plant information. I also have these items listed separately but you save purchasing as a bundle. Printing in grayscale will ensure maximum detail if you are not printing in color.
