If they need to, they can add unknown character tiles as well and predict the traits an unknown character could have based on their placement in the Periodic Table. There are many different arrangements the students could potentially arrive at. I included three examples of possible arrangements. I require the student groups to use at least two properties to set up their tables. The students will mount the table unto a poster board and explain in writing on the board the reason for the set up and use arrows and color to show the periodic trends, groupings and trends within the periodic trends. The students are not constrained to only use a square to rectangle configuration. They are able to choose which ever arrangement they would like as long as it makes sense and can be successfully explained.

Dichotomous Key: Carnivorous, Poisonous and Curious Botanicals Ppt or Task Cards

(0)
Great Dichotomous Key on Botanicals. There are Carnivorous, Poisonous and just curious plants in this collection which spans the world. This activity can be used in its power point format to upload to a classroom website and have the students use laptops or iPads to go through the pictures. You could use the power point for whole class instruction and work through the dichotomous key will all the students participating. If you do not have a class website / laptops or iPads you could print the slides out and use them as task cards set up in small groups around your class like centers. You could also print out handouts with a few slides on each page for the students to use. This activity has quite a few different ways it can be implemented into your classroom. The dichotomous key with two different answer sheet forms and key. There is a student sheet and extension suggestions. Great lesson for after state testing or when the kids get antsy before a holiday break!
Density Identification Lab

This is an editable lab. Students will be given ten objects that they need to measure mass and volume for in order to calculate density. I based my lab from a set of ten density cubes that can be purchased from any physical science catalog. You can also find a collection of objects to use as long as you calculate the densities. I also created a file that has six density tables on it to reduce the number of copies needed. This lab only requires a scale, digital or manual, a beaker or graduated cylinder and ten objects of various materials. * You could also include the same materials for enrichment and understanding.

Cryptozoology Dichotomous Key: Monsters, Spooks, And Ghouls

(1)
This Cryptozoology Dichotomous Key is a great secondary science Halloween activity or end of year wrap up when the AP Biology or state exams finish. We all know how antsy high school students get when Halloween comes around. You can keep them entertained with taxonomy over monsters, beasts, mythological creatures and strange diseases. This dichotomous key is a mixture of reality and myth. Students are given 25 organisms they need to identify. I also included two suggestions for extension activities. I usually use this as a cooperative lesson with my students paired up so they can work the dichotomous key together. I upload the power point to the class website and have my students work with a partner on a laptop. It is a lot of fun to hear them talk about each situation using educational dialogue. This is also a good activity for flipped classrooms. If you do not have a set of classroom laptops or ipads you can also print the power point slides and place small groupings around the room and turn it into a centers activity. You could also print the slides out as class sets.
