UKS2 VE Day news report 2 week unit
Included is a 2 week plan for a unit of work linked to writing a news report of VE Day for year 6 (though could be differentiated for other year groups). Cross curricular links throughout particularly history and art but also music, maths, cookery as part of a start of unit ‘wow day’. Resources made myself are included, missing are those I found elsewhere such as example newspaper report and comprehension text (though these are easily found elsewhere). Also included are two homework ideas and an end of unit assessment document.
VE Day Newspaper Report KS2
This was originally created as a home learning pack for year 6 but could work for many age groups and be edited to be used in school. I can’t upload all of the resources I used as I found them elsewhere but have included the templates which I created myself.
Year 6 differentiated comprehension questions
5 lots of differentiated questions linked to:
Five Children and It
Evil Star
My Shadow (poem)
Throwing a tree (poem)
VE Day (text not attached)
Statement, question, command powerpoint
Quick powerpoint to teach different sentence types. Linked to the book ‘Journey’.

KS1 Guided reading worksheets for Superworm
3 different worksheets for Superworm guided reading lessons. PDF and editable word versions. Useful for sats practice for year 2.
KS1 guided reading - Funny bones
Guided reading questions and worksheet for year 2 for the book Funny Bones. Good sats prep for year 2
Inference square lesson - Bruegel vs Lowry
Excellent lesson for developing inference skills/vocabulary/questioning/investigating people/places etc. This specific lesson is linked to two artists (Lowry vs Breugel) but could easily be adapted to any topic. Used for KS1 but I think would work across most key stages.
KS1 music lesson - animal rhythms
A lesson to teach children about rhythms and opportunities for them to compose rhythms, using animal names as a starting point. Could easily be used for KS1 or EYFS.
Outdoor learning pack for KS1 and KS2
Four different outdoor learning lessons/activities which can be differentiated for any age group. Tried and tested with both year 6 and year 3. Activities include creating a sound map, tree top trumps, camouflage and mapping a garden or outdoor space. Huge opportunities to link to maths, art/design/science and extend to include writing too. Was originally used as home learning activities during lockdown but could quite easily be used in school as well.
KS1 warm up and cool down PE games
A list and short explanation of several warm up and cool down games to be played during PE lessons. Most ideal for KS1 but could easily be differentiated up to KS2 and down to EYFS. I did not make up most of the games, just collated and wrote a description for use in any PE lesson.
KS1 floating and sinking investigation
Lesson plan and worksheets for KS1 investigation into which materials would be best for making a boat. Lots of opportunity for working scientifically.
KS2 Conductors and Insulators investigation
Working scientifically investigation to test which materials are conductors and which are insulators. Includes detailed lesson plan, flipchart and worksheet with questions plus challenge questions. Could be split over a few lessons.
