Writing Based On Videos (Creative Writing)
This planning is based on 3 short videos, which can be found on the literacy shed website called:
Bubbles
Way back home
Black hat
Finishing with a big write focused on report writing.
This planning sequence is aimed at Year 3/4 children designed to hit ‘one off’ lessons or for intervention opportunities.
This resource is planning only.
Firework Night Poetry/Description
This lesson is designed to enable children to write a poem based on firework/bonfire night.
It takes children through the process of looking at fireworks and imagining descriptive vocabulary to describe them.
There is then a short task looking at the senses and finishing with a written poetry activity focusing on onomatopoeia, alliteration and similes.
This is a jam packed exciting lesson but could easily be adapted to last two/three lessons.
I also plan on getting my class to do some firework art on black paper with paint and chalk. Then neatly write their poems over the top in glitter pens to make an awesome display!
I have planned this lesson with year 3 pupils in mind but could easily work for year 4 & even 5 pupils if the literary devices were appropriate.

All of my planning and resources are edited and made using the Twinkl font, if formatting is a problem when using a resource this may be the problem. The Twinkl font is free to download from the Twinkl website and is very clear for learners to read and dyslexia friendly, which is why I use it religiously.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Setting Description Planning
A young boy wins a tour through the most magnificent chocolate factory in the world, led by the world’s most unusual candy maker. When Willy Wonka decides to let five children into his chocolate factory, he decides to release five golden tickets in five separate chocolate bars, causing complete mayhem.
This scheme of work based on an absolute child’s favourite is a comprehesive look at setting descriptions aimed at LKS2.

Billy's Bucket Scheme Of Work
Billy wants only one thing for his birthday - a bucket. Inside it, he can see all kinds of magnificent sea creatures. But Mum and Dad are sceptical and, when Dad unwittingly uses the bucket to clean his car, he’s in for a big surprise!
This planning/scheme of work is designed to support those with SEND needs. It would also work perfectly in EYFS -Y1.

Meerkat Mail Scheme of Work
A scheme of work based on the text meerkat mail.
This resource was written for young people in a special school setting. It focuses on colourful semantic resources to help young people build sentences.
It features postcard writing, inference, comprehension and story mapping as part of the scheme of learning.

Miles Is The Boss Of His Body Scheme Of Work
When Miles decrees that he is the “Boss of his body,” his whole family expresses support and respect for his personal boundaries. In a colorful, comic-book style, young kids will laugh while learning this potentially life-saving concept that can benefit them for years to come.
This scheme of work is designed to last around 5 weeks.

This is the perfect text to introduce the concept of consent.
This planning is aimed at young people with SEND who are accessing at a primary level. So it would also be appropriate for EYFS and Yr1. With continuous provision and differentiation up to written level planned for.

The Firebird Planning (2 Week Unit)
The Firebird
Prince Ivan sets off in search of the Firebird, which has been stealing his father’s golden apples, in this traditional Russian folktale. A story of bravery, determination and magic that has captivated generations, and inspired iconic paintings, music and ballet. Retold in picture book format with a read-aloud text for sharing with young children.
This planning is based on the beautiful book called ‘The Firebird’ by Saviour Pirotta with links to the Royal Ballet.
This resource pack contains 8 lessons worth of planning, resources and SMART board notebooks (with differentiation). It was a very successful module in Year 3 last year but could easily be differentiated down to year 2 or up to 5. It covers text types such as letter writing, poetry, character description, comparison writing and dance (optional).

How To Wash A Woolly Mammoth Planning
Does your woolly mammoth need a wash? This picture book will show you how! A little girl, sensibly clad in a yellow mackintosh and red wellington boots offers readers a step-by-step guide to bathing a mammoth, including everything from how to get the mammoth into the tub (try a skateboard or maybe a heavy-duty crane, or even luring him in with a cake) to how to wash his hair. Just make sure he doesn’t get any soap in his eyes…
With a minimal text and delightful illustrations from Kate Hindley, this is a fun spin on the instruction manual format. There is plenty of humour to keep small readers entertained, and Hindley’s adorable pictures brilliantly capture the woolly mammoth’s changing moods - from panic when the soap goes in his eyes, to his final sense of happiness and contentment when he’s out of the bath and snugly wrapped in a towel. Be sure to look out for all the funny mammoth bathroom products on the back cover - ranging from tusk whitener to antibacterial hoof wash. This is great fun to share, and might just persuade any youngsters with an aversion to bath time that having a wash isn’t so bad after all.
This scheme of work is designed for LKS2 and has differentiated planning, resources and SMART notebooks to support a really enjoyable unit.
The main focus of this planning is to create an instructional text focusing on The Stone Age.

Gorilla Scheme Of Work
Hannah loves gorillas but has never seen one. Her father’s too busy to take her to the zoo – or for anything else come to that.
