The Less Paper Classroom: Multiply Multiple Digit Numbers

(0)
I began creating the Less Paper Classroom product line after seeing a need for a true digital product I could use in my own classroom. I believe being completely paperless is an unfair expectation for any classroom, I do believe, however, that using less paper can be achieved, and this product is designed to allow the teacher to do just that. This product includes 25 full page PDF solve cards. Each solve card features a multiple digit number multiplied by a double or single digit number. Students are asked to solve the equation and record their answers on the recording sheet provided. Note that most of the equations are a multiple digit number multiplied by a double digit number. In addition, each solve card is followed by a full page PDF check card. Each check card features a large QR code, which should be able to be scanned from anywhere in the room if projected on a classroom display screen. Once scanned, the QR code reveals the correct answer. Also included is a traditional recording sheet and a traditional answer key. One huge benefit of a less paper product, is that after downloading the classroom teacher has literally no prep at all. How cool is that? The zip file contains several different file formats. Choose the one that best suits the many ways you plan to use them: Both Solve and Check Cards, Solve Cards Only, Check Cards Only. I have also included a page describing several ways I have used these cards in my room. While this product was designed to be used on a tablet, iPad or projected on a classroom display like a smart board, you could certainly print it out and use it in a more traditional way if you like. Be sure to check out my “Launching the Less Paper Classroom” blog post to read about my journey to becoming a Less Paper Classroom and watch for additional “The Less Paper Classroom” Products arriving in my store soon!

Long Division - Step by Step

For students who are either just getting started with the long division process or with students who are struggling with the process. The example shows a double digit dividend being divided by a single digit divisor. The final answer does have a remainder. The fold-up breaks the process down into six steps: divide, multiply, subtract, bring down (repeat if needed), remainder and check. The steps are listed and a visual representation is shown. The fold-up will fit nicely in a math journal (just trim on the grey line for a better fit). In addition, I decided to create a one page handout (handout is the one without the dotted cut lines) of the steps. My thinking is that this particular information might be a better resource without the flaps.

Customary Capacity Poster

This one page handout allows students to visualize how a gallon, quart, pint and cup all relate to each other. While there are several different visual representations for these customary capacity measurements, I have found that students can relate to this representation better than others.
Order of Operations Tri-Fold Fold-Up

Order of Operations Tri-Fold Fold-Up

(0)
Order of Operations resource your students will use! This half sheet Order of Operations tri-fold resource will fit perfectly in your student's math journal or as a stand alone resource. This resource lists the order in which students are to solve multiple operation equations. The grouping symbols (parenthesis, brackets and braces) are also addressed. I chose not to include exponents, because exponents are not traditionally included in the grade I teach. I have rotated the cover to make printing easier. I would recommend, however, that you do a test print and cut to make sure the tri-fold fold-out is copied correctly before running all your copies. This is a front and back handout. Each page contains two tri-folds.

The teaching aid demonstrates how to use 'The Upside Down Birthday Cake' Method for finding the Greatest Common Factor of two or more numbers. Print individual sheets for your students or chose 'tile printing' to enlarge to poster size. Note: If you do tile print, you will need to assemble the pieces to make the poster. Fraction Attraction Pack: Least Common Denominator and Equivalent Fractions

(0)
Students tackle fractions with confidence while using Fraction Attraction resources! This packet contains: • A 3-Step Fold-Up which would fit well in a math journal or as a stand alone resource. The fold-up explains and demonstrates how to find the least common denominator and change each fraction to an equivalent fraction. • To assemble a 3-Step Fold-Up, run the cover on one side of a paper and the inside of the fold-up on the other side. Next, trim the copies on the lower grey line found on the inside of the fold-out. Then, with the inside face-up, fold the paper vertically down the center. Next, have students cut on the dotted lines. The fold-up is now ready to use! • A half-sheet handout. This handout contains the same information as the 3-Step Fold-Up, just in a different format. I find the half-sheet works well as a reference sheet. Many students like to take it home and share with their parents. • Two page worksheet. The worksheet provides an organized format which will help the student practice the skill. • A one-sided cut and paste worksheet is also included. The focus of this worksheet is to practice finding the Least Common Denominator. • A “M” sheet. I use “M” as an icon for finding the LCM. It is referred to on both the fold-out and half-sheet reference page. Some students may want to use the “M” icon when listing multiples. • Answer keys for all worksheets are also included.

Division Strategies: Partial Quotient Strategy Fold-Up & Practice

Perfect Partial Quotient resource for students and parents! Common Core stresses arming students with a variety of strategies to solve a problem. This includes division. I’ve spent countless hours trying to teach the long division algorithm to each and every student. The truth is, some kids JUST DON’T GET IT! Common Core gives the teacher permission to try teaching the concept using a different strategy. Amazingly, these struggling students seem to catch on fairly quickly to the Partial Quotient Strategy. Included in this packet is a one-fold fold-up. The cover gives a brief explanation of the partial quotient method. The inside gives two detailed examples. I have also included to 2-sided worksheet to use with students. Also, included is a detailed answer key. If you would like to see pictures of this product, please visit Mrs. B's Best Blog

Flip for Math: Step-By Step Flip Books for Long Division - Set of Three Books

(0)
Send this step-by-step guide home with long division homework! The purpose of a ‘We Flip for Math’ Flip Book, is to provide a struggling student witha step-by-step guide to take them through the process they are struggling with. I have various flip books available in my classroom, but only after I’ve taught the concept and we have practiced it a number of times. The complexity of some skills can be quite challenging for many students. Being able to remember all the steps can become overwhelming for some. A flip-book can help walk these children through the process. In addition, I have found flip-books can be helpful when sending homework home . Including a flip book can make for very happy parents! This packet contains three flip-books. • Single Digit Divisor Long Division, • Double Digit Divisor Long Division • Dividing BIG Numbers. BIG Numbers shows dividing a four digit dividend by a two digit divisor. While not the biggest of numbers, to a 5th grader, this is a BIG division problem. Not wanting to waste paper, I included several division problems students could use as practice problems. These problems can be found on the final page of the BIG Numbers Long Division book. These 3 cards, could be laminated and placed at a center. While working the division problems, the flip book could be used as a reference. To assemble each Flip Book simply run single-sided copies of all pages. Laminate for durabillity. Cut on the dotted line. Put the pages in sequential order-- cover should be on top. Bind or staple (binding works best) across the top!

Working with Factors and Multiples Fold-Ups and More!

(0)
Help your students understand how to work with multiples and factors! Until mastering what a factor and what a multiple is, a student is going to struggle to find the Least Common Multiple or the Greatest Common Factor. This realization is what prompted me to make this Working with Factors and Multiples pack. Included in this pack are 3 matchbook fold-ups. One of the fold-ups combines both factor and multiple. The other two fold-ups do not combine, but are set up to teach the vocabulary one at a time. Also included are practice pages. One 2-sided sheet combines practice on both factor and multiple. A second 2-sided practice sheet has factor only. And a final practice page focuses on multiple only. I also included instructions and pictures on how to assemble the matchbook fold-ups as well as how to copy the practice pages.

Fraction Attraction Pack: Add and Subtract Fractions with Unlike Denominators

Students tackle fractions with confidence while using Fraction Attraction resources! This packet contains: • A Matchbook Fold-Up which would fit well in a math journal or as a stand alone resource. The fold-up explains and demonstrates add (or subtract) fractions with unlike denominators. • A half-sheet handout. This handout contains the same information as the matchbook fold-up, just in a half-sheet format. I find the half-sheet works well as a quick reference sheet. In addition, many students like to take it home and share with their parents. • Two page worksheet. The worksheet provides an organized format which will help the student practice the skill. • A one-sided cut and paste worksheet. The cut and paste sheet is not as structured as the two page worksheet. I would suggest using this page once students have practiced the skill for some time. • Answer keys for all worksheets are also included.

Geometry - Types of Lines

(0)
Perfect for a math journal! This matchbook foldable focuses on intersecting, parallel and perpendicular lines. A definition and a visual representation is given of each. To assemble a matchbook foldable, make a two sided copy (cover on one side and inside on the other). While looking at the inside, bring the top down to the bottom horizontal line and fold. Then bring the bottom up, folding on the bottom horizontal line. The finished product will look like a giant matchbook. I would cut the three line types apart (on dotted line) after the folding is complete. Always make a test copy before copying for your students to make sure the cover and inside fold up properly. Note that the cover is intentionally upside down for easier printing.
