Working with Decimals - Fold-Ups Galore

(1)
FOUR fold-ups for one GREAT price! This packet contains four different decimal fold-ups. Each fold-up is designed to fit perfectly in a math journal or be used as a stand alone resource. • The first fold-up divides adding and subtracting decimals into an easy to follow three step process. Run front cover on one side of paper and inside steps on other side. Trim on grey line for a nice fit in any math journal. • Fold-up number two is a half sheet, two-flap fold-up that shows multiplying decimals in two easy steps. Two fold-ups per sheet. Again, run cover on one side of paper and inside on the other side. Note that the cover is upside down for easier assembly. • Fold-up number three shows three types of division with decimals: Dividing a decimal by a whole number, dividing a decimal number by a decimal number and finally, dividing a whole number by a decimal. Don't teach all three? Just cut away the type you don't want. Think all three in one fold-up is too much for your students? Cut all three apart and present one at a time. Run cover and inside as described above. Trim on grey line for a nicer fit in a math journal. • The fourth (and final) decimal 3 flap fold-up, explains rounding decimals, comparing decimals and converting a decimal to a percent. Run copies as stated above. Trim on grey line for a nicer fit in a math journal. As always, I recommend you run a test copy just to make sure you have the front and back on right and the fold-up folds up correctly.

Flip for Math: Using Compatible Numbers to Estimate Division

(0)
Knowing how to use Compatible Numbers is very helpful when tackling a long division problem! The purpose of a ‘We Flip for Math’ Flip Book, is to provide a struggling student with a step-by-step guide to take them through the process they are struggling with. I have various flip books available in my classroom, but only after I’ve taught the concept and we have practiced it a number of times. The complexity of some skills can be quite challenging for many students. Being able to remember all the steps can become overwhelming for some. A flip-book can help walk these children through the process. In addition, I have found flip-books can be helpful when sending homework home . Including a flip book can make for very happy parents! This packet contains a 3-part flip-book that focuses on using compatible numbers to estimate division . • In the first section, the definition and examples of compatible numbers are given. Also, in the first section is a step-by-step guide for using compatible numbers to estimate division problems with a single-digit divisor. • The second section, shows how to use compatible numbers to estimate division problems with a double-digit divisor. • The third section, demonstrates how compatible numbers can be used to ‘jump-start’ the solving of a double-digit division problem. • Also included is a 2-sided practice page. Answer key is also provided.

Division Strategies: Decomposing the Dividend Strategy Foldable & Practice

(0)
Give your students the tools they need for tackling long division The new Common Core Standards for Math prompted me to create this Decomposing the Dividend Strategy pack for use with students and with parents. The Decomposing the Dividend Strategy encourages students to break the dividend into parts that can be divided easily. The long-term goal of this method is for students to solve the division problem mentally. In my experience, it will take a great deal of practice before students will master the ability to solve the problem mentally using this method. I have found that many higher achieving math students will pick up on the strategy and choose to use it. This packet contains: • A tri-fold fold-up (front and back) that shows how the strategy works. It would make a wonderful resource for both students and parents. • A 2-sided practice page as well as a detailed answer key. Knowing Divisibility Rules gives students an advantage! This pack includes Individual Divisibility Rules Fold-Ups (2 per sheet--just cut apart on grey line and present one at a time). Once printed and assembled you will have 10 individual divisibility rule fold-up for 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, and 12. The inside of all of these fold-up could be enlarged and used as a poster for your classroom. To learn how to make a poster be sure to visit Mrs. B's Best Blog Also included are two fold-ups that summarize five divisibility rules each. These fold-ups would work if rules have already been taught and the student just needs a resource to refer to. I have also included ten 18 question worksheets to accompany each divisibility rule. An answer key is also provided. As always, when printing be sure to run a test copy to make sure the fold-ups fold up properly. Want to see pictures of the product? Stop by Mrs. B's Best Blog.

Fractions - R.E.D. (Review Every Day)

(0)
Give students the review they need to master the skill! If there is one thing I have learned since I began teaching math to 5th graders 10 years ago, it is that students must practice a skill repeatedly. Just because a student is able to change an improper fraction to a mixed number for the chapter test, does not mean they will remember the skill a month later. With this in mind, each day I set aside a portion of time to practice previously taught skills. From this practice, RED, Review Every Day, was born. This packet contains 28 quick half-sheet reviews focused on fractions. This Review Every Day includes the following fraction skills: Reducing fractions to lowest terms, comparing fractions, ordering fractions, writing equivalent fractions, finding the least common denominator, adding & subtracting fractions with alike and unlike denominators, multiplying and dividing fractions with a whole number, multiplying and dividing two fractions, multiplying and dividing mixed numbers, changing improper fractions to mixed numbers and changing mixed numbers to improper fractions. Please note that this packet does NOT teach the skill, but only serves to review the skill after you have taught it to the students. Each review has anywhere from 8 to 12 questions. In my classroom I spread the 28 lessons out and usually do not use them one day after another. I have other RED lessons that I would mix and match. So, for instance, Monday might be Fractions 1 and Tuesday might be Decimals 1. By Friday, I may be ready to use Fractions 2. Each review is a half-sheet. Lesson 1 and Lesson 3 are on page 1. Lesson 2 and Lesson 4 are on page 2. I do this intentionally. If you run page 1 on the front and page 2 on the back and then cut the sheet in half, you will have Fractions 1 on the front and Fractions 2 on the back. The entire document is set up this way. This saves paper, and allows the teacher to teach the lessons in order and in a more efficient way. At the back of the packet you will find the answer key which provides the answers to all questions.

Change a Mixed Number to an Improper Fraction & Back Again and Practice Pages

(0)
Teach your students fraction basics! This product is a two part fold-up. Part one is "How to Change a Mixed Number to an Improper Fraction". Part two is "How to Change an Improper Fraction to a Mixed Number". Also included with this product is a 2-sided practice page and answer key. Each fold-up defines how to make the conversion and shows an example. As the teacher, you can decide if you want to cut the two apart and present each at different times or leave the two together and present at once. The choice is yours. Either way, the fold-up will fit nicely in a math journal (just trim on the grey line before distributing to students for a better fit) or work as a stand alone resource. The top portion of the fold-up was intentionally left blank and could be used as a place for students to record a few examples of their own. The front cover is intentionally upside down, this makes for easier printing. I would recommend, however, that you run a test copy to make sure everything folds up properly.

Fraction Attraction Pack: Subtracting Mixed Numbers with Renaming

Students tackle fractions with confidence while using Fraction Attraction resources! So, your students know how to subtract fractions. They know how to find the common denominator, write equivalent fractions, subtract and write the answer in lowest terms...but, what happens when they are ready to subtract and find that the top numerator is smaller than the bottom?? “Subtracting Mixed Numbers with Renaming” shows the process of renaming in step-by-step details. This packet contains: • A Fold-up which would fit well in a math journal or as a stand alone resource. The fold-up explains and demonstrates how to rename when subtracting mixed numbers. • A full-sheet handout. This handout contains the same information as the tri-fold fold-up, just in a single sheet format. I find this sheet works well as a quick reference sheet. In addition, many students like to take it home and share with their parents. • Two page worksheet. The worksheet provides an organized format which will help the student practice the skill. The worksheet progressively increases in difficulty, until finally the student is completing the entire process. • A one-sided cut and paste worksheet is also included. The cut and paste sheet is not as structured as the two page worksheet. I would suggest using this page once students have practiced the skill for some time. • Answer keys for all worksheets are also included.

Exponents and Base Ten Fold-Up and Practice Pages

Perfect resource for a math journal! This fold-up gives students a basic understanding of powers of ten and exponents. It will serve as a valuable resource students can use throughout the school year. Also included with this product is a 2-sided practice page along with answer keys. The purchaser has two options with this packet. If time is an issue, you may want to use the ready made fold-up. Just print it out, cut in a few places and it is ready to go. Or if you prefer have your students assemble the fold-up by cutting and gluing each piece to the blank fold-up template. Some may be even more creative and use the cut apart page to make a matching game, take home activity, etc. If using the fold-up in a math journal, cut on the gray lower line for easier fit. To see pictures of the finished product be sure to visit my blog post.
Types of Fractions (Improper, Proper, Equivalent, Mixed Number)

Types of Fractions (Improper, Proper, Equivalent, Mixed Number)

(0)
Help students distinguish types of fractions! This foldable features four types of fractions: Improper Fractions, Proper Fractions, Equivalent Fractions & Mixed Numbers. It works well in a math journal or as a stand alone resource. Each type is defined and an example is shown. This foldable can be run with all labels on. All your students need to do is cut, fold and glue. Or, you can run a blank template and a 'parts' page and allow your students to assemble. Still another choice would be to run just the cover and have students glue inside parts in or vice versa. It's really up to the teacher. If you don't teach all four types or if you'd prefer to teach them one at a time, simply cut the four types apart and present each type one at a time! I try to make my foldables as versatile as possible. When running copies, be sure to do a test print to make sure the front cover and inside are copied properly and fold up right.

This fold-up explains the transfer of energy through a food chain within an ecosystem. The food chain begins with the sun's energy, followed by a producer. The food chain continues with a first order consumer through 4th order consumer. This product is a half-sheet single flap fold-up which explains the transfer of energy through a food chain. The sample food chain begins with the sun, followed by a producer and a first order through a fourth order producer. For the teacher short on time, run a completed inside sheet. This fold-up will be finished and ready to be used by students with just a simple fold. If the teacher has time and would like the fold-up to be more interactive, run the fill in the food chain description inside sheet. A description parts sheet will have to be run too (4 sets of parts per page.) Directions on how to assemble are also included.

This packet contains a ‘three examples + practice’ flip-book. • The 1st example provides a step-by-step guide for dividing a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number (no remainder). • The 2nd example shows how to divide a 4-digit number by a 1-digit number (with remainder). • The last example demonstrates how to divide a 3-digit number by a 2-digit number (with remainder). • The final section provides several practice problems along with an answer key. • In addition, I included some ready-made index tabs for marking each of the four sections.
Long Division - Step by Step
mrsbsbestmrsbsbest

Long Division - Step by Step

(0)
For students who are either just getting started with the long division process or with students who are struggling with the process. The example shows a double digit dividend being divided by a single digit divisor. The final answer does have a remainder. The fold-up breaks the process down into six steps: divide, multiply, subtract, bring down (repeat if needed), remainder and check. The steps are listed and a visual representation is shown. The fold-up will fit nicely in a math journal (just trim on the grey line for a better fit). In addition, I decided to create a one page handout (handout is the one without the dotted cut lines) of the steps. My thinking is that this particular information might be a better resource without the flaps.

Perfect Partial Quotient resource for students and parents! Common Core stresses arming students with a variety of strategies to solve a problem. This includes division. I’ve spent countless hours trying to teach the long division algorithm to each and every student. The truth is, some kids JUST DON’T GET IT! Common Core gives the teacher permission to try teaching the concept using a different strategy. Amazingly, these struggling students seem to catch on fairly quickly to the Partial Quotient Strategy. Included in this packet is a one-fold fold-up. The cover gives a brief explanation of the partial quotient method. The inside gives two detailed examples. I have also included to 2-sided worksheet to use with students. Also, included is a detailed answer key. If you would like to see pictures of this product, please visit Mrs. B's Best Blog

This packet contains three flip-books. • Single Digit Divisor Long Division, • Double Digit Divisor Long Division • Dividing BIG Numbers. BIG Numbers shows dividing a four digit dividend by a two digit divisor. While not the biggest of numbers, to a 5th grader, this is a BIG division problem. Not wanting to waste paper, I included several division problems students could use as practice problems. These problems can be found on the final page of the BIG Numbers Long Division book. These 3 cards, could be laminated and placed at a center. While working the division problems, the flip book could be used as a reference. To assemble each Flip Book simply run single-sided copies of all pages. Laminate for durabillity. Cut on the dotted line. Put the pages in sequential order-- cover should be on top. Bind or staple (binding works best) across the top!
