L.E.M Phonics aligns with the science of reading strategies. The program is grounded in the principles of systematic and explicit phonics instruction, which has been shown to be highly effective in helping students learn to read.
The program emphasizes the importance of sound-symbol relationships, phonemic awareness, and multisensory instruction, all of which are key components of the science of reading. Sound sorts, which are a core component of the L.E.M Phonics program, have been shown to be an effective tool for teaching phonics and spelling skills.
In addition, L.E.M Phonics incorporates many of the principles of the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching reading, which is widely recognized as one of the most effective methods for teaching students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties.

Designed to assist students in year 5 prepare for:
analyzing feature article reading passages
answering comprehension questions

It has multiple uses and could be a practice run of assessment, an alternative assessment for a composite class, an end-of-term or year revision activity or a stand-alone** āCold & Annotated Readā** activity where a teacher guides students through identifying vocabulary, text and language features with a pencil and highlighters.
The annotation resources inside this unit booklet are used to analyse the feature article called āGreat White Nonsenseā. For greater depth, teachers can guide students to identify/define unknown words and discuss what evidence they can note that enables students to distinguish the main idea and the authorās purpose. All in preparation for students planning, drafting and writing a good copy of their own feature article at the end of the MEGA unit.

Use print selection to identify which pages you wish to print.
Print on white A4 paper, color paper or cardstock.
Slightly thicker paper would be better for sliding in binder spines, but it is completely optional. Laminating them will increase the width and may prevent them from fitting your binder.
