This free lesson develops students’ understanding from the previous lesson on the product life cycle and now introduces learners to various extension strategies that can be used to lengthen the life of a product. We look at the advantages and disadvantages of each strategy - this can be done with a kinaesthetic task where students walk around the class and note down the pros and cons of the different strategies on their sheet (quite a few to remember and not so fun to write it all down from the board). Some consolidation questions before finishing with a box plenary.

This lesson introduces learners to how goods/services can be sold to customers through two main channels - physical and digital. We discuss the recent growth in digital channels with some charts before looking at examples of different channels plus their pros and cons. MCQ, short exam style question, debate question and a box plenary to finish with.

4.6 How to sell the good or service to the consumer
This double lesson introduces learners to the three methods of building public relations. We start by looking at some real examples of product placement such as Krispy Kreme doughnuts in the Power Rangers movie, we then look at the pros and cons of this method of PR. We then watch some TV adverts with celebrities endorsing products before going onto the pros and cons of this method of PR. Finally, we look at press and media releases such as Apple’s annual iPhone event in September, although emphasis on how these methods can apply to a small business context for R067. Some consolidation questions before ending with a research task, debate and box plenary.

This double lesson introduces learners to the various digital and non-digital types of advertising medium used. We start off by looking at what advertising, before watching some TV ads. There are quite a lot of methods students to need to know along with their pros and cons so there are a few days this can be delivered. An independent research task where students find the pros and cons for either digital or non-digital and then feedback to class. A walk around the class activity where students find the pros and cons of the advertising methods and compelte their tables with notes, or this can be delivered as a matching task to be done on tables in groups.

In the first double lesson, learners are introduced to the unit, with a breakdown of the exam structure before embarking on the topic of entrepreneurs. We look at some famous entrepreneurs and discuss what the class knows about them already, we then focus on the 7 main characteristics of successful entrepreneurs. Some research tasks before going onto the second part of the lesson withs some further activities to consolidate learning. 2 MCQs to test knowledge and prepare students for section A of the R067 exam. This lesson introduces learners to quantitative sales forecasting, the lesson is broken down right from the beginning - we recap how to work out basic averages learnt in math, we then look at an example of how to work out 3 year moving average and then to centring with 8 figures, all broken down step by step. We then look at the limitations of using quantitative sales forecasting.
We then go on to read a concise case study where students have to work out the moving averages and then answer a 20 mark question (this can be done as a discussion or answered as an exam question), concise model answer is given and students can see how to structure a 20 mark question.

This double lesson introduces learners to the reality of business - that strategies fail at times. We start by looking at the decision making process of developing a strategy and identify reasons where failure can be rooted from in this process. We then look at the difference between a planned and emergent strategy as well as strategic drift. A video of real life business examples that drifted away from the environment such as Nokia and Kodak. We look at the divorce between ownership and control and the impact this can have on a businesses strategy. We look at the subjective nature of ‘success’ when evaluating the performance of a strategy. This set of resources includes 2x PPTs and 4x word documents consisting of exam practice and activities - this can be delivered over at least 4 lessons.
In the first double lesson, we start off by looking at an overview of developing and implementing strategy, including ways to implement strategy effective. We then look at the importance of leadership and communication in implementing strategy. Learners are then introduced to key concepts in organisational structures such as span of control and chain of command in engaging ways i.e chinese whispers to demonstrate the negatives of a long chain of command. We look at the pros and cons of tall, flat and matrix structures, then we move on onto centralised and decentralised structures. A short case study based on cartoon characters who have switched to decentralised - a few questions to contextualize the knowledge. Students acknowledge that orgnaisations can be strcutured in different ways such as by function, product or region.
In the second lesson, students have the opportunity to learn about the supermarket industry, in particular Morrisons struggle with the budget supermarkets which led to restructuring - a 16 mark question with structure guidance and a detailed model answer to help students with peer assessments, as well as making improvements to WWW and EBI. To spice it up a bit, a group matching task, where students have to create an organisational structure - answer sheet provided so teacher can look around whilst students work on it.
In the second double lesson, learners are introduced to critical path analysis, quite a tricky concept to understand at first for a lot of students - but not with this powerpoint. We start with an engaging starter to contextualise the topic, then we break down the elements of the critical path such as node, EST LFT, activities and durations so that we can see how it is built. Guidance is displayed step by step how to work out EST and LFT.
Students have opportunities to practice completing and calculating critical path analysis, including working out the EST and LFTs, float times and the critical path.
We then look at the advantages and disadvantages of CPA, followed by a concise case study on the usefulness of using CPA. Structure guidance and a concise model answer is given to help students improve their exam technique. A group task to construct a more challenging CPA and a kahoot quiz + box plenary to end with.

We then look at a number of real life examples of strong and weak cultures. We then look at Handy’s four cultures and Hofstede’s national cultures models. Influences on culture as these differ in businesses, finally we look at the challenges of changing culture as this is deeply embedded and always visible in business.
In the second lesson, we recap with some true or false questions before reading a case study, an exam question evaluating culture in a business, concise model answer and peer assessment grid for students to identify WWW and EBI before responding with an improvement.
