Emergency Cover Work English: Writing Challenges

(0)
This resource is intended to be used as emergency cover for Secondary English or as an overflow task for when some pupils are finished, and some are still working – but of course you can use it however you see fit! The resource contains 5 pages, each containing 9 challenges that pupils can choose from. Each challenge has a different purpose; narrate, describe, persuade, letters and exposition. I would recommend printing the writing challenge sheets and distributing them 1 between 2 or per pupil. The pupils should then choose a challenge to complete and work on this, aiming to write either 300 words or a page, depending on the task. Help is given to the pupils on the left hand side of the page so they should keep the sheet with them while they write so they can refer back to it. **What’s included? ** Publisher Version (5 pages of writing challenges) PDF Version (5 pages of writing challenges) Notes on Resource
Jane Eyre Context Activity

Jane Eyre Context Activity

(0)
This Jane Eyre context activity is designed to develop student knowledge of the social, cultural and historical context of the novel and support their understanding of the novel as a whole. Five topics are included. They are: The Gothic Gender Social Class Religion Children HOW TO USE THIS RESOURCE Split the class up into five groups. Each group should work through one topic. They should find and summarise key information and then present this to the rest of the class. While each group is presenting, the rest of the class should be making notes so that each student has notes on each topic by the end of the lesson. I reccomend allowing 30-35 minutes for research preparation and 20-25 minutes for presenting and note taking. You may also want to ask students to write down questions they have about each topic so that they can conduct further research. This can be used for an exam board that teachers Jane Eyre.
