History
Halloween
An interactive power-point for pupils in Years 2, 3 and 4. The power-point is structured as comprehensive, structured lesson which includes an introductory assessment activity, opportunities for paired and group work and whole class information sharing. The slides are cross curricular and cover Halloween activities in Maths, Speaking and Listening, Drama and Poetry. The slide contents include a history of Halloween, superstitions, spells and folklore.
The power-point slides are designed to enable the teacher to work progressively through the topic or stop at specific place to develop a theme. The children will need paper, pencils and an atlas or map for group work.

History detectives - KS1 Mystery powerpoint lessons (2)
History Detectives -The Mystery of the lost property/Petra the Rose City : Two complete power-point History lessons for pupils in KS1. Lesson one begins with a role play scenario asking pupils to solve a lost property mystery. The learning includes developing historical investigation skills: gathering information from photographic source material, developing historical vocabulary, asking questions and analysing and drawing conclusions to build a character profile. Lesson two builds upon the skills used in the previous lesson using the archaeological world heritage site, the ‘Rose City’ of Petra as a stimulus. Learning focuses on developing understanding of facts, guesses and questions. Included is a simple Petra information sheet which can be printed for pupil use in the lesson.
Lesson slides include simple paired tasks to encourage discussion and collaboration and written activities to develop recording skills.

Set in September 1666, James Shirley, Dramatist, writes about his observations as the fire takes hold of and destroys London. This example demonstrates features of a diary and acts as a recount of the event including personal feelings and points of view.
Useful in the lesson for pupils to use to identify features and structure of diary writing or as a Recount Checklist activity.
Can be used in cross curricular History topics on The Great Fire of London or Samuel Pepys diary.
The Gunpowder Plot and Bonfire Night
This power-point can be used as a full lesson or as a guideline for active learning for a whole day focus on The Gunpowder Plot. It consists of a range of interactive cross curricular activities which begin using pupil knowledge of Bonfire Night and develop into the historical account of the Gunpowder Plot.
Learning includes: Understanding the link between Bonfire Night celebrations and the Gunpowder Plot, developing historical vocabulary, and using historical documents to extract and interpret information.
The power-point promotes collaboration, discussion and information sharing in a historical, geographical and mathematical context.

How to write a horror story A KS2 power-point of 19 slides which can be used as one lesson or extended over a longer period. Included are examples of 2 short horror stories (not too scary!) for pupils to use in the lesson to analyse against a Horror story features checklist. There are key questions to promote discussion and paired work. Also included is a simple planning and drafting grid. KS1 & 2 RE : A Christening Mystery powerpoint lesson (s)
KS1 & 2 RE : A Christening Mystery. A powerpoint lesson beginning with twelve clues of images, a sound bite and questions which build up into a Christening celebration. Pupils work in small groups of three and four and are guided through the problem solving slides via key questions and discussion/written tasks to try to help Lewis solve which celebration has taken place using the clues from the mystery box found in his attic. Pupils are encouraged to learn key vocabulary (font, Holy water, pew, aisle etc) and discuss the celebration possibilities giving reasons for their thoughts as the clues emerge.
Slides 20-23 offer simple factual information about Christenings and include a painting of ‘The Baptism of Christ’ (Da Vinci) and images of stained glass windows. The final slide offers a simple photocopiable activity for pupils to complete on what three wishes they would give to a baby and an opportunity to write about/find out about how they were named – a class or homework follow up task.
