Designed really for Yr 12s before their Yr 12 mocks, but can be used to remind Yr 13 of different strategies or generate discussion. I've used VARK to encourage students to think about how they best learn and then suggested strategies that they can adapt around those. I have other Yr 12 and 13 Tutor materials uploaded also.

It works through the role of Practical, Ethical and Theoretical Considerations (PET), provides activities for these 3 focus areas, using for example Suicide as a Case Study for Theoretical Considerations and Laud Humphries for Ethical. I use this lesson as my first lesson with my AS/A Level (Year 1) Sociology Class. The outline explains the 2 year course to them, and we use it as a folder organiser for sections of work. The powerpoint then runs through a range of activities, dealing with society, social imagination, norms and values, culture, social construction, ethnocentricism. The activities (word docs and video clip) link to the powerpoint. The key terms sheet allows them to reflect and record at the end of the lesson.

This is designed to help teach the Methods in Context Section for AQA A'level Paper 1. The PowerPoint introduces Methods in Context and the idea of Applying the method directly to the issue. I have used examples from the previous specification, as we have so few from the 2015 Spec. The table (word Doc) and powerpoint activity is designed to encourage students to think about how they would apply and focus their ideas, rather than generalising. There is a peer marking activity - with the current markscheme. A list of past questions, both previous and current specifications. Plenty of practice for students and can be adapted into group work for students to attempt and feedback to rest of group, or complete as individual revision/exam technique practise.

I was asked to put together a presentation for staff to explain the importance of higher level questioning and give some examples of approaches and activities to encourage it. The powerpoint does just that! This was followed up with further training sessions and now I lead a SWG for stretch and challenge. Additionally, the slides contained structured questions relevant to the subject, within the Academy I teach at, all subject areas produced a specific one. The idea being that students get more used to higher order questioning and encourages better peer questioning, teachers have a visual aid - often useful if being observed.
