I am an experienced teacher and currently Head of English and Media in a large secondary school. I am also an examiner for EDUQAS English Language GCSE. I have a range of resources available on TES. Some of my resources are quite old, from when I first started out, and I am currently working in my spare time to update my resources. There are a range of resources from displays, schemes of work, revision booklets, mock exam papers and lessons available.

A fun lesson where students practice their writing skills, creating a first person narrative set in a dystopian setting. The lesson has learning objectives and success criteria clearly laid out, as well as a complete lesson with all tasks and resources in the one powerpoint. Useful for both year 8, 9 and 10. Easily adaptable.

Literary Hunger Games studying power in Macbeth

(0)
A fun, engaging and interactive lesson using the system of a 'Hunger Games' to discuss power and strength within Macbeth. Students are given a character at random, and some basic information, they then need to argue and discuss who would win a literary Hunger Games. There are 'weapons' cards that can be collected from the cornucopia, as well as 'health boosts' for students who the teacher decides is most persuasive. Really engaging way to consider the themes of power, corruption, greed and strength within Macbeth. Especially successful with middle-low sets to encourage engagement.

Eduqas component 2 19th and 21st century non fiction texts mock paper

(1)
I have created a 'mock' component 2 paper using a 19th century advert for Cadbury's cocoa and a recent 21st century article commenting on Nesquik's advertising of it's chocolate milk. I have made this exam practice paper to help students get used to the style of exam, but used an easier text than usual to boost confidence. This is set out in the exact way Eduqas (formerly WJEC) has laid out it's specimen papers and is an incredibly useful tool when teaching students the correct way to answer each question. I have used these in conjunction with my Blood Brothers scheme of work, working with year 9 students in preparation for their GCSE course.

To tackle the lack of enthusiasm about homework in my school I created a Nando's menu of homework tasks. This one targets key stage 3 and assists teaching of Boy by Roald Dahl. There are 25 homeworks already planned, differentiated by 'spice'. Since using these menus, where the students pick for themselves, the amount and quality of homework has improved

A fun, colourful display reminding students of often common mistakes within English. Colourful and easy to understand, it is a fun way of reminding students to check their mistakes themselves. All images and font have been checked and only 'free to use or share commercially' images have been used.
