I'm an Australian/Scottish teacher of History and English currently based in Scotland. Most of my resources are aimed at the Scottish BGE curriculum at 3rd year level, and the N4/5 History courses which prepare students for progression if undertaking N4 or to pass their exams at N5.

This is the first lesson in a unit on China under Mao. It is aimed at an S3/Year 9 class. In this lesson students are introduced to the ideas of communism and capitalism. They then learn about the rise of the Chinese Communist Party in the early 20th century as well as being introduced to Mao and his views. This is the sixth lesson in a sequence of lessons on the Holocaust. It is aimed at S3/Year 9. In this lesson students will learn about Nazi propaganda and censorship. They look at the different types of propaganda and their impacts. This is the fifth lesson in a sequence of lessons on the Holocaust. It is aimed at S3/Year 9. In this lesson students learn about Hitler's policies and increasing Jewish persecution including the introduction of the Nuremberg Laws and Kristallnacht. Students will then undertake an evaluate the usefulness practice source question. Students then watch the documentary Kindertransport: A Journey to Life to show what happened as a result of Hitler's anti-Semitic policies. They should complete the viewing questions throughout.

Apartheid: Ending Apartheid (Lesson 6)

This is the final lesson in a sequence of lessons on Apartheid. It is aimed at S3/Year 9. In this lesson, students learn about the reasons why apartheid was finally ended in South Africa. Students will then watch the documentary, Miracle Rising South Africa and complete the accompanying question sheet (answer sheet also provided). Following this, students can undertake a final assessment task. This covers all of the content they have learned across the sequence of lessons, however students will need to do further research on the impacts of the end of apartheid (how South Africa has changed since 1994). The task, marking criteria and scaffolds are attached if you choose to use them. It is written with the current Scottish Benchmarks for assessment purposes. This is the third lesson in a sequence of lessons on Apartheid. It is aimed at S3/Year 9. In this lesson students learn about the eventual election of the National Party and the following implementation of apartheid policy. Students will then complete a table task on the apartheid laws, and must evaluate their impact. They then complete an empathy task before being introduced to the topic of Bantustans and a mapping activity. Students then learn about forced removals before completing a National 5 level source question as preparation for their senior studies. Students will learn about four laws which helped create segregation and must then evaluate these policies. This lesson looks at the historical origins of Apartheid and encourages students to think about how past events can impact the development of history. Students create a timeline of these events, examine the concept of nationalism, and will then complete a carousel task looking at four key events and their impact on the growth of Boer/Afrikaner nationalism. Students are then asked to consider how this might have then led to the policy of apartheid. As I operate a mixed class, there are activities designed for both National 4 and National 5 included within the lesson. Students will undertake a jigsaw task in which they become experts on one of the Scottish industries affected by WWI. They will look at short term impacts (during the war), and long term impacts (after the war). They will also learn about new industries after WWI, and the impact this had on Scotland. Students will then complete practice exam style source questions and a storyboard activity.

Students are to work in groups to complete a poster examining political change in Scotland focusing on Red Clydeside (Rent Strikes/40 Hours Strike), a growing political awareness in working class, and the changes to the political parties and their popularity at the time. National 4 students then have empathy tasks to complete while National 5 students have practice exam style questions.

In this lesson, students learn about the introduction of conscription, reserved occupations, and the varying reasons why some men became conscientious objectors. Through three individual case studies, they examine men who objected for political, moral and religious reasons, and students will find out how these men were treated. Students will then complete practice exam style questions, and if they finish early they have other task choices.

Students will take notes on reasons for food shortages and why rationing was introduced - along with other methods used to address the shortages and a timeline of these changes. Activities include examining impacts on local area - change area name to suit! Following this, students have practice exam source questions and a knowledge revision quiz
