This ppt is for an activity I conducted with our soon-to-be year 7s on their transistion visit. It's a facilitated activity that encourages the pupils to (i) share their perceptions of the benefits of learning a language (ii) think about how learning a language will devlop their generic thinking and learning abilities (iii) reflect on how an MFL lesson, which they have just had, has fostered generic thinking and learning skills. It could be used with Year 7s at the start of their MFL career.

Batman describes his holiday in France with Catwoman, simultaneously modelling the use of the Perfect Tense with haben and sein. The stimulus text is followed by (i) a richtig / falsch / nicht im Text exercise, (ii) a 'find the phrase' exercise, (iii) pupil reflection on the choice of haben or sein, (iv) an explanation of the use of haben or sein, (v) a manipulation exericise focussing on the Perfect, and (vi) three writing tasks.

The first text is about a Grundschullehrer who answered a pupil's question about Father Christmas with the truth. The second text is a weather report covering the prospects of there being a white Christmas. Both texts are followed by questions in English.

This is followed by a true / false / not in text exercise, an adjective identification exercise, a reminder about adjectival endings, and two writing tasks. The second file contains an additional task for students who may need some additional work / challenge. Students have to complete an interview with Katniss Everdeen and must transpose many statements in the third person into the first person.
