Promote scientific literacy in your class and give students an appreciation of the real world impact of science with this disciplinary literacy resource. Suitable as a worksheet or a class-reader handout. This resource focuses on the the real-world Sporting applications of the AQA Combined Science specification. A reading comprehension task featuring a bespoke magazine-style article describing the Physics of Sprinting, Swimming and Rugby showing physics concepts and tier 3 vocabulary in context. This is followed by 13 questions of increasing challenge. The text has a reading age of around 15 so will be especially useful with top set, Mable and Gifted and Talented Students. Extension/Discussion questions are incorporated to promote thinking hard. I plan to use this at the start of the P5 Forces topic to give an introductory overview, but could equally be useful for consolidation, revision and retrieval, or even early in KS5. The resource is easily adapted to other exam boards (such as Edexcel) and International curriculum of other countries. Please leave feedback to help me improve my resources!
