Created as a series of cover work lessons, introductory power point with two student worksheets at the end, to facilitate the designing process. I have also laminated and attached the sheets with split pins for use when there is no IT access.
Pupils to consider what they would be like as a Super Hero, design their costume / gadgets etc. Consider who their arch enemy would be, and produce a comic strip adventure.
Pupils really enjoyed the work, and the fact that it was a series of lessons, producing some very detailed work.
Please review, if you download :-)
Fun starter activity for GCSE revision classes. Pupils to work in pairs small groups to play and test each other on the questions inside the fortune teller. Questions might be to explain, list, name information.
I have included a blank template, when you print out make sure you cut down to an accurate square shape or the fortune teller will not fold together correctly.
I have included three examples of question sheets that I have used, The possibilities are endless.
If you download please leave a review - many thanks.
To help pupils begin to create a design solution for the exam; on the Fairground Theme. I have produced a work book and some starting inspiration images.I have printed these as two booklets to give the pupils to work from; alternatively you could print and laminate the images at A3 size to make a class resource / or just show as the power point.
If you look or download, would you please be kind enough to leave a comment or a development suggestion. I am always happy to share my resources, and feel motivated to share more when comments are posted as a thank you.
A starting point for this years Textile Exam question for AQA - Context MARINE LIFE. Pupil workbook and inspiration mood boards to support the start of the design ideas. For pupils entered into the exam Summer 2016.
Please leave feedback to help me develop and improve my resources - thank you :-)
The popular children's toy mr and Mrs Potato Head - a stand alone design actvity or could be developed into a sow with prototyping and making.
Design a Mr Potato Head on a new theme - consider the theme / expressions / accessories.
Work sheets included within the power point.
Popular with boys and girls across a range of keystages.
If you download please leave a comment - this took me a long time to produce.

Introductory powerpoint with pupil workbook, to introduce the exam design question theme, Worldwide Transport / Educational product for a child.
Allowing the pupils to record their first thoughts, and enable them to begin sketching their first design ideas through to a final design for the exam.

Introduction to the subject of fibre types and the benefits of blending fibres. Brief outline of fibres to yarn to fabric.
Usefull as a revision tool for the exam - powerpoint has blank slides that can be printed out for the students to note take on, during the presentation.
Fabric samples of the fibre types would be a usefull addition during this presentation to enable pupils to be tactile with the fibre types.
A quick starter or pleanry to review basic keywords eg: - seam, hem, presser foot.
Laminate the cards, pupils could complete the card order in pairs or individually to review their understanding of the terms.
Could also be set as a homework - cut out the cards - ask the pupils to glue them in to the correct order on a piece of paper, or write out the correct order.
Pupils really enjoy the dominoes!
If you download - please leave a review :-)
How to complete a simple circuit with conductive sewing thread, using textile components as the switch - to light an led.
Can be used for KS3 / 4.
Once the basic skill has been mastered - think of other components that can be used to complete the circuit and manage the energy flow.
A booklet of inspiration images and worksheets to allow the pupil to start thinking about the theme, and develop design ideas, including scaffolding for the annotation.
This is a format I have used for many years with success, as it is supportive for all pupils as a starting point to begin generating their ideas. It allows them to practise drawing the ideas and developing them through to a fully considered final design.
They can think about textile decorative hand techniques and how they could be produced in industry.
If you download please leave feedback, and .... Good Luck with the exam. :-)
Cut out and laminate the dominoes. A good way to revise the pattern markings, or introduce the topic. A small selection of dominoes, that work best in small groups at the table.
Powerpoint slides for quick starter activities - to allow pupils to review prior learning before a revision lesson.
Slides in the style of Mike Gershon's starter / plenary activities.
Slides cover plain, twill, satin weave, screen / rotary / sublimation printing, batik & block printing. Some List-O-Mania titles you could add a countdown clock to the slides or some 'hint' pictures to help some pupils get started.
Revised Electronics in Textiles, showing how to make a simple circuit with conductive thread, using press studs to form the circuit instead of a circuit board. NO SOLDERING required.
New slides at the end of the powerpoint showing how to make a simple flowerpot design ~ with two LEDS in parallel.
Step by step photographs on how to produce the circuit.

An introduction to paper modelling / prototyping to create a 3D bodice. Students experiment with paper folding, kirigami, joining circles etc and then developing the paper bodice using them. Good introduction to surface manipulation and 3D construction.
Originally developed for KS5, but had really great outcomes with KS4, the photographs on the blue background are KS4 work.
Plastic drink bottles used as a mannequin to hold the bodice securely; with a little bit of water in the bottle they provide a stable base to work on.
Love an Exit Ticket <3
These are the pages I use the most at KS3,
Exit Tickets for workbooks I mainly use in year 7, the same exit Formatt at the end of the lesson.
Exit ticket with mixed questions is good with year 8, as it doesn’t just repeat what they did in year 7.
Exit ticket one thing I knew before and two I didn’t has proven popular with year 9.

** Taking a pupil’s existing design**, this is a workheet that supports them developing their design work to avoid fixation.
I used this with a class to prepare them for their exam - NCFE using the activity for them to be able to see how they could present a wider range of ideas to show their design development, as they focus on the different graphic components - line / tone / colour / composition / typography / imagery.
The class engaged with his activity really well, using their design ideas from a previous lesson.
I printed out the slides A3 and pupils self selected which Logo design they felt they could develop and improve the most.
They enjoyed working with someone else’s design idea as a starting point to develop it. The next lesson they returned to their own designs and applied changes to them using the same format.
