Students know The Joker, The Goblin and Lex Luthor, but do they know the Latin equivalents like La Arana Negra, El Diablo and Black Tarantula ? Students love this take on a Spanish cultural lesson where they are first introduced to super villains of Latin America (ppt), then they are asked to create their own supervillain using ser + descriptions. As an additional element to the lesson I often let students’ supervillains compete in a competition where students describe their supervillains and the class votes on which one would win in a showdown. Think “Batman vs. Superman” This is a follow up lesson that I use a few weeks after completing the Superhero Project but could be used as a stand alone assignment as well.
Students love this challenge. They must work in pairs to cover a wide variety of hypothetical questions such as What season would you choose to live in forever? what superpower would you have? If stranded on an island, what three items would you choose to have? etc…They must answer the questionnaire in a timed format and then compare their answer to those of their teammate. The team with the most comparable answers wins the challenge. This document is entirely in Spanish and designed to be used at any level. I use it mostly as an on the fly “Friday Fun Day” lesson.
This is a fun travel themed activity that can be done on the fly even with a sub. The context is that students wake up late for a flight to their vacation destination and have to work their way through the airport to catch it. To do this, they must place all the actions in the correct sequence for example; check bags before going through security, show boarding pass before boarding etc…To add a little fun I time the students and give them only 20 minutes for this part. When they complete the sequence they then must answer questions from the airlines safety card before take off.
This is great for a thematic chapter over movies, cinema, plots, film making etc… Students get to look over a list of the top 25 children and family movies of all time according to Rotten Tomatoes. They then must choose of those 25 which ones would make their own “top 10” list and explain why, using vocab such plot, director, scene, actors, romance films, action films etc…This can be used as homework, sub plans or additional fun practice for a movies and cinema themed chapter.
