The Earth's Rotation Worksheet GCSE Science

(0)
About this sheet This little homework sheet helps GCSE students to understand how the Earth rotates around its tilted axis and how this causes seasons, day and night, hurricanes, the Coriolis effect and a hot Equator. You might also like these resources on Tes: Auxins Home Learning Worksheet GCSE The Mole Home Learning Worksheet GCSE The Brain Home Learning Worksheet GCSE Meiosis Home Learning Worksheet GCSE Browse resources in the same category Physics resources How to get a free resource. πŸ€‘ Step 1: Leave a review on any of our premium resources ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Step 2: Send a screenshot of it to our Twitter or email and tell us which resource you want (same price or less). An answer sheet which has the answers filled in. A worksheet in black and white (easier to photocopy). More about this sheet As a starter, students label the Earth and identify features such as the North pole. By thinking about how the Earth rotates and how this effects the regions that are dark on the globe, students can learn why the sun rises in the East or why we have different timezones. By calculating the amount of surface receiving sunlight at the Equator and closer to the poles, students are able to explain why regions closer to the poles are colder. The Boost section gets students to think about why air moving to a higher or lower latitude does not follow a straight path and why this in turn causes hurricanes to rotate anticlockwise in the Northern hemisphere. This sheet works great as a homework, plenary or class activity. It’s aimed at GCSE Geography, Physics or Science students but anyone with a basic understanding of how the Earth rotates should be able to answer most of the questions since the sheet guides students through the concepts. The aim of Super Useful Stuff sheets is to explain more difficult concepts in a useful way that are usually not covered in the GCSE specification. The topics make students think about everyday life and will help them to understand the underlying causes for common things such as the seasons of the year.
