(0)
A fully resourced lesson designed for the new AQA GCSE specification, from an experienced author. This lesson includes editable and PDF versions of: • Power point presentation • Worksheets with full sets of answers • Technician’s sheet (fully resourced and illustrated) • A VLE version of the presentation (with the answers removed) In addition, it includes an optional self-marking Google Classroom Homework for those of you lucky enough to work in a school with Google Classroom set up. Other lessons in this topic are available, as is the topic as a whole. The first lesson “Permanent Magnets” is available free of charge so you can try before you buy. Objectives covered: Lesson 9: PHYSICS ONLY Transformers Explain how the effect of an alternating current in one coil in inducing a current in another is used in transformers. Explain how the ratio of the potential differences across the two coils depends on the ratio of the number of turns on each. Calculate the current drawn from the input supply to provide a particular power output. Apply the equation linking the potential differences and number of turns in the two coils of a transformer to the currents and the power transfer involved, and relate these to the advantages of power transmission at high potential differences. Describe Vs and Vp for a step-up and a step-down transformer. Describe the construction of a transformer.

Developed to teach pupils how to revise, and to try new revision techniques, this resource structures each topic and provides the option for pupils to choose which type of revision activity is best for each section of each topic. Instructions for a variety of key revision activities are on the rear of the sheet, so pupils can revise completely independently, given appropriate notes or other stimulus material (see my other resources for activities which result in a full set of notes!). I have included the original publisher document so you can adapt it or create a version for your own subject. The storyboard we use is from freeology: http://freeology.com/reading/storyboard-with-six-boxes/

Conservation of Energy Marked Work Task

Take hours off your weekly workload! Mark a full set in 30 minutes Given the new ofsted focus on managing teacher workload, there is a shift towards effective marking being done efficiently. The emphasis here is on the students doing the work, and the students making guided progress. This resource is the free sample of the main resource which covers all of KS4 Physics with structured open tasks and target-based marking. The students complete the work and hand it in. Mark the pile of worksheets by highlighting or drawing a ring around the target you wish the student to do as their response. (You can also do this for any parts of the task the student has not completed, since the task is on the sheet). Return the tasks to the students and project the targets onto the whiteboard for students to do their marking response. I have made the ‘Conservation of Energy’ task available for free so you can try before you buy, and check that your school are happy that this fits in with their marking policy.
