Teacher PPT to introduce the key question … wo warst du in den Sommerferien? Pupils learn how to say where they were and are introduced to countries with the imperfect tense e.g “Ich war in Amerika”. Pupils describe their experience in the past using positive and negative descriptions. Pupils also recall weather and different verb forms in the imperfect tense. There is a puzzle to review learning. There is also a worksheet to support recall of countries. Attached is also a set of prompt cards of country flags to support speaking work. This is pitched at low level learners and is ideal to support SEN students.

This resource is a reading and translation activity adapted from an authentic article that has been taken from a popular French website. Pupils read the topical article on refugees and demonstrate understanding by completing the crossword. The clues are in English and pupils read the article to solve the puzzle. This is easy to print. It would also be easy to adapt as a comprehension exercise. After completing the exercise pupils have gained vocabulary knowledge to complete speaking or written work on the challenges faced by refugees.
