Two reading units which focus on a fiction and non-fiction. Each unit focuses on vocabulary, making connections, finding antonyms and synonyms and a range of questions. All questions are on the slides ready to use or copy on to a work sheet for books.

This is a week of grammar skills based on writing a newspaper about evacuees arriving at Budmouth Point. The skills covered are formal language/Standard English building to using the subjunctive form, Past simple, past progressive (review) and past perfect tense and using direct and reported speech. This is a gather week where chn collect vocabulary and ideas for their write in week 3. They create a toolkit for a newspaper write based on articles from newspapers in WW2. They create vocabulary banks which can be referred to and use a range of books to gather information on how evacuees were received. This will help them to write their newspaper article based on the arrival of evacuees rather than the departure of. As chn were relocated due to the Blitz, there are 2 lessons where chn collect ideas about the Blitz and what it would have been like. They will finish the week writing a setting description of the Blitz which could be used, in part, in their newspaper write in week 3. I do not own the copyright for the extracts used.

A grammar week building on from week 1’s work on vocabulary. This week includes expanded noun phrases, coordinating and subordinating conjunctions as well as speech punctuation. Throughout the week there are starter tasks aimed at building chn’s accuracy and creativity with their writing. There are self and peer assessment opportunities built in to the week and an entrance and exit ticket to allow chn to build their metacognition. All worksheets and tasks are included. Here is a week of ‘Gather’ based on Who let the Gods out. It starts with a WAGOLL of the two main characters meeting, develops vocabulary, discusses other authors of fantasy narrative and allows chn to find their authorial voice. A video clip allows for visual literacy and we end with a short writing task based on character. Each lesson begins with a SPaG recall activity to develop chn’s understanding and lower the cognitive load when they begin to write. All slides have notes annotated to help lead discussions and pick out key teaching points. All resources for the week are included. Please note I do not own the rights to any extracts used from various novels or the video clips.
