A game to support the teaching of number bonds to 10, as well as providing an opportunity to develop problem solving skills.
Children are required to match the sides together to create one large hexagon, ensuring that each piece that touches adds up to 10.

Problem solving task relating to weight. Seaside, beach, pirate, shell themed resource. KS1 based
Pupils required to draw shells that will add together to balance the scales to the weight of 10 cubes.
Pupils should carefully count the weight of each shell and check that the different coloured shells together at to a total of 10. Extension questions are based on white rose mastery style questionning, giving reasons and explanations for answers.

Children loved the different activities particularly the maths challenge and instruction writing.
Instruction writing - I had pupils draw an image similar to the one from the book where all the chicks are laying the chocolate eggs and then they completed their writing which was cut out and stuck on over the top to give the same effect as in the book.
Maths: It helped some pupils who were struggling to have physical resources to support them, or even drawing out what it was they were problem solving.
Looking at addition and subtraction this resource can be used to create addition and subtraction number sentences, also linking to representations of part whole and bar models.
Differentiated and also with blank spaces for children to pick their own domino and complete.
Repeated addition, fun problem solving maths activity based on decorating a crown with 'jewels' (counters) then using the pricing shown, to add up the total value of their crown.
Then an extension to find all possible ways to create a crown worth 20p. Can also be extended in multiple ways through further questioning.
Maths problem solving activity involving following a rule of adding 1 more. Then finally adding together the amount of bricks on each row (or counting for LA).

A fun resource to support teaching of capacity to KS1 pupils, involving looking at different potions (water with food dye in glass bottles and exciting name labels)
Low threshold, high ceiling problem solving task based on weight of dragon eggs.
Taught to Year 1 /2 class but can be adapted for older more able pupils.
Open ended challenges for pupils to find all possible solutions for the dragon eggs to balance a scale with 10 cubes on the other side. Each egg balances the scale with a different number of cubes. Pupils must find all possible answers varying colours of eggs and amounts to balance the scale.
Supporting pupils in finding different ways to solve maths problems. Such as drawing, recording a number sentence, creating a story / worded problem, using equipment to show how to solve the problem.
These worksheets can be printed for each child, laminated onto A3 as extra challenge for MA pupils who have completed the task, or adapted depending on ability / topic.
