Students will explore physical processes in the rainforest such the nutrient cycle, food chains and food webs. They will also investigate the structure of the rainforest and how plants and animals have adapted to the climate. Students will be able to explain the different causes of deforestation through an engaging murder mystery style acitivity. Students will use a card sort to identify a variety of positive and negative impacts of deforestation. They will be able to reach a judgement as to whether economic development is more important than protecting the environment. Towards the end of the topic there will be the opportunity to evaluate different management strategies using a football style knock out activity. Hopefully, this scheme of work will inspire and engage your students to help them progress with their learning.
