Healthy Eating Power Point and activity

(0)
This is a presentation to teach and engage learners in conversation about healthy eating. It covers each food group, what could happen if you have a poor diet and what a balanced diet is. The activity takes learners through a McDonald’s meal to understand calories and proportions, and how much exercise is needed to use up the energy.

Here are 90 different cards with various subjects to either use as warm up exercises, projects, or to get passed the ‘creative block’. Of the 90 cards, 27 are coloured orange. This is so the learner can take one blue card with a subject, and one orange card with a visual element or style to focus on for a stretch or challenge activity. Both orange and blue cards can be used on their own to produce work around that word, subject, visual element or style.

E&D - Experience Disability - Card Sort Activity

(0)
For equality and diversity, or disability awareness, this card sort activity encourages learners to experience completing an activity with a disadvantage. Afterwards, they discuss the activity, how they felt, what adjustments could be made to make the task accessible. You will need a deck of cards. The instructions are included with the activity.

Sexual harassment PowerPoint Presentation

I teach a cohort of predominantly male students. I use this when discussing bullying to make them aware of how their comments could be taken by other students. We also discuss how they might be subjected to sexual harassment, and how they might be accused of it. I find this session also breaks the ice as they become quite passionate about some subjects that emerge from the discussion, so I use this early in the year. At the end there is a link to a video about sexual consent.

Customer Service Complaint Scenario Cards - discussion/role play/embed Literacy

(0)
This activity is great for teaching customer service skills, communication skills and problem solving. There are 8 customer cards and 8 staff cards. The customer cards have a scenario that the customer needs sorting. The staff card has information to set the background/attitude of the staff. Any staff card can be put with any customer card, so there are numerous combinations that can be used. These can be used to role play a scenario, where the learners can then feedback on their experiences. The learners can also either role play or suggest a better way of dealing with the situation, and analyse what went wrong in the examples.

Self Evaluation - like SWOT - Interests, Values, Personality etc

A nice little worksheet for learners to think about what makes them who they are. This is where they can acknowledge what they are good at, what type of person they are, what they value and what interests they have. This can be used to think about personal statements, CVs, writing applications or used for self esteem or self respect lessons.

Team member style self assessment - team work, teamwork, worksheet

(0)
This is a quick little worksheet for learners to find out how they work in a team environment. Learners grade each role as to whether it sounds like them or not, and the highest scoring role is their role. They can then use this information to develop their team working skills. It also allows learners to evaluate if they have leadership qualities, initiative, and communication and negotiation skills which can then be developed further using other activities and assessment. This can also demonstrate how different types of people can work well as a team, and that everyone works in different ways and have different strengths to contribute.
