LIPS (Language, Imagery, Punctuation and Structure) is a memorable checklist to ensure students go beyond simple recount when analysing poems.
Allow students independence in their study by providing a small anthology. From there they can explore poems of their choice by responding to one LIPS prompt in each column.
To increase the challenge, prevent students from responding to the same prompt twice.
Students really enjoy the freedom and security this task provides whilst reinforcing key ideas for AO2 (AQA Lit)
