This is a Reading Comprehension packet to go along with the Magic Tree House Book #9: Dolphins at Daybreak. I have used it with First and Second grade students. There is a cover page to make each student a packet, along with a comprehension page for each chapter. There is a page to preview the book and a page at the end for the students' thoughts on the book. I have used the packet with both a small group of students and with a whole class at one time. You can differentiate when you use the packet. The more independent students can work on the book and packet on their own or with a partner, while you work with the students who need more direction and help. In the packet, I have included different types of reading comprehension questions and activities, such as Text-to-Self (text, world) connections, Predicting, Visualizing, Character Traits, and different styles of questions. I have the packet for Book #1 listed for FREE so you can see what a packet is like. Each packet I have made is specific to the book, so they are a little different, but you would get the general idea. (This set has an Answer Key.) Thanks so much for looking!

Missing Addend Center

(0)
This is a Back to School Themed set of cards for finding the Missing Addends. There are 42 sets of cards and answers. I used addition problems with sums up to 5. Since this is the first set, I wanted to keep it easier with smaller numbers as the students learn how to find the Missing Addend. I have made sets which get progressively harder throughout the school year. I found that with repeated practice, students become really skilled at finding missing addends. (14 pages) Thanks! Science: Properties of Objects

(0)
These are pages I made to help my class explore the properties of objects (properties such as: hard, soft, wooden, plastic, circle, square, heavy, light). The papers tell the students what to do and has room for them to draw and write what they did. For these activities, you will need 2 bags of objects. Bag A should be a random group of objects including some wooden objects, some plastic objects and some soft and hard objects. I used things such as cotton balls, wooden blocks, pattern blocks, counters, straws, etc. Bag B should include various items that have a circle shape and a square shape. If you choose to do the Weight activities, you will need to use balance scales and cubes. (3 pages) Thanks, SDH Creations

The other is a simple one page investigation with room for observations and questions to answer. There are 12 pictures with shadows to sort into 2 Headings: Shadows Near Noon and Shadows in the Morning or Afternoon (based on the length of the shadow). There is a student worksheet with pictures to cut out and put in the correct column. These are the same pictures as in the Shadow Sort. There is a Shadow Web in which the children can write what they have learned about shadows. (10 pages in all) Thanks! SDH Creations
