These pages are meant to help introduce the changing lengths of shadows to children. I have included 2 versions of a Shadow investigation- measuring the length of someone’s shadow several times during the day and over several days to see patterns in the length. One version follows the Scientific Method using the words: Question, Materials, Procedure, Data/Observations, Conclusion and Further Questions. The other is a simple one page investigation with room for observations and questions to answer.
There are 12 pictures with shadows to sort into 2 Headings: Shadows Near Noon and Shadows in the Morning or Afternoon (based on the length of the shadow). There is a student worksheet with pictures to cut out and put in the correct column. These are the same pictures as in the Shadow Sort. There is a Shadow Web in which the children can write what they have learned about shadows. (10 pages in all)

These are pages I made to help my class explore the properties of objects (properties such as: hard, soft, wooden, plastic, circle, square, heavy, light). The papers tell the students what to do and has room for them to draw and write what they did.
For these activities, you will need 2 bags of objects. Bag A should be a random group of objects including some wooden objects, some plastic objects and some soft and hard objects. I used things such as cotton balls, wooden blocks, pattern blocks, counters, straws, etc. Bag B should include various items that have a circle shape and a square shape. If you choose to do the Weight activities, you will need to use balance scales and cubes. (3 pages)

These are letter and number flags to make banners for your classroom. For example, you can make subject banners for your bulletin boards (Math, Reading, etc). There is a flag (triangle shape) for each letter and the numbers 0-10. The numbers are great for making signs to number table groups or Center areas.

This is a Back to School Themed set of cards for finding the Missing Addends. There are 42 sets of cards and answers. I used addition problems with sums up to 5. Since this is the first set, I wanted to keep it easier with smaller numbers as the students learn how to find the Missing Addend. I have made sets which get progressively harder throughout the school year. I found that with repeated practice, students become really skilled at finding missing addends. (14 pages)
