SPAG Powerpoint for starters/short teaching sessions (4)
SPAG Powerpoint 4 (of 5)
A powerpoint comprising of 72 slides covering aspects of the SPAG curriculum, for example:
• Sentence types
• Subordinating connectives
• Non-finite clauses
• Noun phrases
• Expanded noun phrases
• Interesting vocabulary
• Adverbial phrase and clauses
• Colons and semi-colons
• Articles
• Speech punctuation
• Synonyms for said
• Formal/informal language
• Apostophes for possession
• Apostophes for omission
• Homophones
Each topic includes a slide or two of teaching plus an activity slide based on the learning in that session (some, more complicated topics, run over a few days). The slides and tasks have been created for a short 15 minute SPAG session but could also be used as starters or in literacy lessons. At the end of each block of 4 topics is a quiz slide (which, if covered daily, would be a Friday session) which recaps the previous 4 topics covered.
This Powerpoint has enough slides for 6 weeks of daily teaching (one topic per day). One further Powerpoints will be available soon covering the other areas in the SPAG curriculum, including a final revision set at the end.
PLEASE NOTE: Some slides have been duplicated from previous Powerpoints for revision purposes and the lower price reflects this.
Letter from Mr Tumnus to class
An editable letter from Mr Tunmas, the character from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S.Lewis. (Spaces available to fill in the date, class name and and school name).
The letter addresses the children, tells them a little about life in Narnia and asks questions to the children. The idea is that the children will practise their letter-writing skills (as well as punctuation and grammar) in replying to the letter.
The letter is differentiated 3 ways (HA/MA/LA).
Using the Inverse to Check Multiplication and Division (Differentiated) + answers
A set of questions where the inverse is needed to check whether multiplication and division number sentences are correct or incorrect. Differentiated 3 ways and answer sheets are included.

WAGOLL Diary Entry and Planning Sheet
A WAGOLL diary entry of a good day. The purpose of this was for the children to write their own diary entry, but of a bad day, using this example as a prompt.
A differentiated planning sheet (HA/MA/LA) for planning a bad day diary entry based on style of the good day WAGOLL diary entry.
Number Fact Knowledge Activity
This is a short task designed to test pupils' understanding of number facts, including:
-odd and even numbers
-square numbers
-prime numbers
-multiples
-factors
Instructions are on the sheet. This could be made simpler/harder by changing the task to 1- or 3-digit numbers.
This activity could be a main activity or used as a quick revision/starter task.
100 Book Challenge Display
Display cards for a '100 Book Challenge' - where children race to be the first to have read 100 books! Each level could have a prize (for example, a bookmark/pencil/magazine/book token etc.) The books are for the names of the children in the class; I printed them on coloured card and then wrote on them.
Traffic Light Marking Checklist
When marking books, I note down all the children into the appropriate columns:
Green: if they clearly understood the lesson content
Amber: if they mostly understood the lesson, perhaps with a few errors
Red: if they struggled with the content
This allows for quick intervention the following day for any children who fall into the 'red&' category.

In my classroom I have 'Challenge Boxes&', small plastic boxes which I place on the tables during lessons with an extension or challenge task in them. I made these labels to decorate the boxes - colour co-ordinated to our table groups (blue/red/orange/green/purple)
