SEN Y6 Science- could be used in Ks3 and Ks1/2 also. I used this during the introductory lesson about the heart and found the combination of firstly labelling togather and then independently filling in the gaps worked really well.

Every class should know right from the start what you expect from them (Max 3/4) and you need to know what they expect from you. I run this activity with every new group, SEN or not and ensure it is displyed immediately at the front of the class to be constantly referred back to . Enjoy :)

I used these worksheets with my small SEN BESD group when introducing Ancient Greece. I used a carousel activity for them to gather facts and images for their fact file- which was immediately displayed and we watched a clip about ancient greek soliders and they added the labels (which are still on the word file) and completed the gap/extension tasks. Usually at the end of term once I have marked an extended piece of work/assessment, I use this to help students reflect on their work and work out which area they need to focus on to improve next term. The students will need lots of assistance and sampling the first time you show them this but once they’ve got it, they enjoy picking out specific targets from the list and then on the first lesson back, I get them to write their target at the stop of the page and keep checking their work against it. I used this during an introductory lesson about the heart- I used this after we had discussed and completed the parts and function worksheet and watched a short clip demonstrating how the heart moves. This took around 10-15mins with my small SEN group and they enjoy the fast pace and choosing which activities to do to speed up their hearts. Enjoy.

I created these slips to encourage a very tricky mixed ability group to reflect upon their classroom behaviour and work. I printed on coloured card and handed them out at the end of term. I then sent a text out to all parents telling them to ask for the slip and to email me if they didn’t receive one. The students appreciated the bespoke feedback and were interested to read each other’s and I could use them to refer back to in future lessons to help them reflect upon their learning.

I ALWAYS complete this with a new primary SEN class and they then place their finished sheets on their own part of a noticeboard that is just theirs. They enjoy sharing their basic details and it is very useful for staff as a way in to a positive relationship- which we all know is the key to behaviour management.

I created this resource for a KS5 Functional Skills maths lesson, but it could easily be used for various ages/abilities. I started by handing each student a real foreign note and getting them to guess where the note was from and then we went round the room and shared our notes and use the map on the worksheet to locate our currency. They really enjoyed this exercise and were well engaged. Then we went through each task with lots of reflection and discussion surrounding my adventures in those places, which again, helped them to stay on task and complete the calculations. They all reflected that this lesson helped to prepare them, if they ever travelled abroad and needed to know how much British currency they had. Please review if you download! Enjoy!

I used this sheet in collaboration with a video demostrating the brains ability to process information and what each part of the brain does. They really enjoyed videos of brain surgery showing different areas being highlighted during the patient talking etc. Enjoy :)

I used this to finish the cryptography topic with SEN students- once they were practised in decoding and used staff members and humour to engage them in the mystery. I cannot stress how much fun the students had and I just watched them scramble around the room decoding and then moving on the the next clue I’d hidden. Easily adaptable to be longer/more difficult. I used this when teaching a BESD YR 6 class to get them interested in ICT. They absolutely loved learning abour cryptography and creating their own code. Some even used it throughout the term to send each other messages! Every Friday at our LAC Secondary SEN school, we introduced 4 different fruits each week for students to try. They really enjoyed this activity and were amazed by how many different fruits they’d never seen before and even students who flat out refused to engage initially, were involved and trying new fruits by the end of the first 6 week run. This worksheet was given at the end of term and worked well as they wanted to compete with each other on how many fruits they could remember. I created this when the whole school were spending the day learning about Kenya and I wanted to introduce them to Swahili as the final part of the day was watching the Lion King. They LOVED using the bags to create weird and wonderful sentences that they could try to translate for each other and mix up as they pleased. It does require some prep as each table needs a bag or you could have one big bag with many more words and get student helpers to assist the picking! Please review if you download :)

Utilising GAPMINDER-DOLLAR STREET SITE to introduce development topic for SEN KS3 students. Inclusive, engaging and with embedded key vocab and literacy/IT tasks. They really enjoyed using the website and I had great feedback from parents about the tasks facilitating interesting discussions about equality and contrasting living standards.
