An hour-long lesson introducing students to the context of this Arthur Miller play. An active and engaging lesson that requires students to be independent learners. Fully differentiated and well-presented.

A shortened AQA-style Paper One exam. Students are given an extract and then a question 1, 2 and 5 so that their reading and writing skills can be assessed.

A full lesson on Dulce et Decorum est which focuses on the language used to show the horror of war. The lesson begins with students being asked to come up with a question based on an image. They then work through the lesson, following one of three differentiated pathways (this could be individually or in ability groups). This leads to an analytical writing task and an eventual attempt to answer the question that they started the lesson devising. As with all of my lessons, this has been used by me and my department - it was graded as a 1 in my recent PM observation. It has been tweaked following its usage and contains notes on the bottom of the slides to encourage teacher questioning. This is a lesson that I taught to a top set year 9 class and was rated outstanding. It could easily be used for Y11 as it is very challenging! The lesson focuses on Romeo's soliloquy and introduces students to astrological theories in order to analyse language more fully. They are encouraged to make links to the rest of the play throughout. The lesson is differentiated by splitting students into pathways for the main activity and providing a modern translation of the soliloquy. There are also notes for teachers to suggest routes of questioning to encourage students to extend their thinking. An hour-long lesson that looks at the first meeting between Romeo and Juliet and the sonnet that they speak together. Includes activities and whole-class discussions to lead students to an independent writing activity. Fully differentiated, learning objectives and outocmes with notes on the bottom of the slides to suggest what areas teachers might want to focus on.

A two lesson bundle on Anthem for Doomed Youth. Beautifully presented and fully differentiated. These lessons focus on a thorough understanding of the poem before moving on to analysis. Opportunities for AfL and peer assessment are embedded throughout.

A descriptive writing lesson taught to a very bright year 7 class but could be easily adapted for all year groups. The lesson includes a three-way differentiated reading activity as a springboard for students to write their own descriptive piece to create tension. Success criteria, redrafting opportunities and musical chair peer assessment all feature in this lesson which was graded outstanding in a recent observation. Three reading extracts have been included.

A fully differentiated lesson on Robert Browning's The Laboratory with lesson objectives and new GCSE assessment criteria. Students are encouraged to make inferences or engage with the story of the poem at the start of the lesson and then work through it in order to answer a question based on gender representation. All resources are included: images, LA starter, writing frame, differentiated copies of the poem.

A short activity to introduce students to the concept of growth thinking - encouraging them to change negative statements into positive ones.

A lesson designed to revise and strengthen knowledge of persuasive features through letter writing. This lesson is designed around Twelfth Night but is very easily adaptable to suit any scheme. Full lesson objectives and success criteria included.

A lesson that focuses on PEA using an extract from Oliver Twist. Students are encouraged to consider aspects of language and structure in creative ways as a gateway to PEA writing. Fully differentiated and beautifully presented.
