1) A PowerPoint which explores dialogue as a way of moving plot forward. It includes general guidance, a 5 point check list and examples of quotes from well-known authors (JK Rowling, Dick King Smith, Lauren Child, Justin Somper and E Nesbit) which match each item on the check list. There are 2 suggested activities on the last 2 slides. 2) The examples explored in the PPT for children to discuss and match to the checklist (Do this before looking at the slides) 3) A set of success criteria stickers featuring the 5 point check-list. Recommended Use: Children worked in mixed ability pairs. We discussed the 1st 2 slides on the PPT before reading the examples. I kept the checklist slide up on the IWB for them to check against the texts. They were asked to read and discuss these and note next to each one which (one or more) of the criteria the dialogue met. We then discussed these as a class, offering opinions about which examples they felt were most powerful/effective in moving the story on. We answered the discussion questions displayed with each quote. The children then completed the 2 tasks at the end and used the sticker checklist to judge how well they met the SC. I anticipate these will be of further use as 'moving on' comments for further pieces of independent writing.
