OCR A Level Biology (Year 1 and AS) Year Revision Checklist
I have made this checklist by typing up each criteria that is within the OCR specification guide. Students can track their notes, revision and feelings towards each one and then plan accordingly for their exams.
Human body organ system revision workbooks
A selection of workbooks designed for Level 3 - allows students to work through questions at own pace but also checks learning and progression. Can be used as an activity in class or as homework. Currently using for Access to HE Human Physiology
Introduction to Genetic Screening and Genetic Counselling
A good starting resource to introduce your students into the concept of genetic counselling. Can start discussions at any point throughout the slides in small groups or as a whole class. Videos incorporated onto slides did not work converting from Google Slides to PPT so have included references underneath
Introduction to Contraception power point
A good starting power-point revolving around contraception and different types. Best accompanied with actual contraceptive devices so students can see them as being taught. Can develop and adapt to suit your needs
Male and female reproductive system lessons
Power-points to introduce the male and female reproductive systems. Covers anatomy, gametogenesis and hormonal control. Also uploaded 2 diagrams for Notebook if you want to get students up to the Smartboard (hopefully they work!)
Enyzme revision powerpoint level 3
Suitable for any level 3 Enzyme revision topic - you can expand on points and create own resources to go with it. It is meant to be a revision powerpoint so students will have covered the topic before. I am currently using this for the new BTEC Level 3 Applied Science Unit 3 Specification but also with Access to HE students.
Human reproduction revision workbooks
Three workbooks designed for Level 3 Access to HE students - 1) Female reproductive system, 2) Male reproductive system, 3) Genetic inheritance.
Can easily be used for revision in class or out, and adapted to suit your needs.
Level 3 Macromolecules end of unit quiz
Quiz designed for Level 3 Access to HE students, who completed a unit on macromolecules. Questions cover topics such as enzymes, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, inheritance, respiration, proteins... Easily adaptable. Get sudents to peer mark each other and there is a prize available for the winning team. I allowed 30 seconds per question.
Level 3 Human Reproductive Biology end of unit quiz
Designed for Level 3 Access to HE students but easily adaptable. covers male and female reproductive systems, contraception, and genetic inheritance. Put students into mixed ability groups and get them to peer mark each other. 30 seconds per question. Prize available for winning team
Cellular Respiration
Cellular respiration slides which follow the AQA A Level textbook, also good for Access to HE and BTEC courses as has the basic outline for steps involved. Can easily be adapted and reworked to suit your needs.
Pre-Access Health and Social Care - Level 1 Human Physiology
Pre-Access is a Level 2 course designed for students to then progress onto the Level 3 Access to HE course. This particular unit however is designed to be Level 1 / Level 2. Good for a starting point with a new group.
BTEC 2016 Nationals Applied Science - Unit 3 G Energy in Fuels
A series of slides for BTEC Level 3 Applied Science students studying on the new Framework. Takes students through different fuels, hazards associated with fuels and specific heat capacity. Also comes with glossary sheets and a worksheet, both of which match up with the slides. Tried and tested!
UDPATED BTEC Nationals 2016 L3 Applied Science - Unit 4 Section A Health and Safety
A series of slides designed for the new BTEC Nationals 2016 Applied Science NQF Framework. The slides follow the new BTEC textbook and are designed around student research and discussions. A good starting point for teaching.
UPDATED 10/10/18
BTEC 2016 Nationals NQF Applied Science Unit 2 D How am I doing?
A set of resources to use for Unit 2 D Assignment. I have used them this year and they worked well, but you can expand on these plans very easily. Get your groups to discuss and share ideas!
BTEC Nationals 2016 Applied Science Unit 3 F Plants and their environment
Slides created for the new BTEC Applied Science Level 3 qualification. Used last year and worked well. Used ideas from the textbook and online. Ensure that you take your students outside to do to the sampling.
Would appreciate some feedback as it is a new spec! I have also used other resources however they were not my own.
BTEC 2016 Nationals Level 3 Applied Science Unit 3 Science Skills Enzymes and Diffusion
Resources created for the new BTEC specification starting 2016. I have used the new textbook to help create some of these items. The resources are for D - Enzymes, E - Diffusion.
BTEC Nationals 2016 NQF Level 3 Applied Science Unit 4 D
Slides and mix and match handout for the new BTEC Unit 4 (Pearson Level 3 NQF Applied Science 2016). I used this last year and have updated for use this year. Information has been gained from textbook and online. Difficult to teach so I suggest you also try and get a guest speaker from a local laboratory sector.
BTEC 2016 Nationals NQF Applied Science - Unit 1 Biology
Includes:
Lesson slides for B1, B2 and B3 parts of the unit 1 material
Quiz slides for animal and plant cells
Tables for students to complete on prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
microscopy starter booklet
Table for students to complete on specialised cells
I have created these as I am teaching the start of this unit this year, and that is why there is no workbooks/activities for tissues - but, there are slides you can use as a starting point.
OCR AS Biology A - Module 2 Foundations in Biology - Full set of PPTs
Full set of slides ready to teach AS Biology, Module 2. You can use them to help you prepare, especially if never taught AS Biology OCR before. You can create worksheets and booklets to accompany these slides. The slides follow the OCR specification and textbook. I have used them this year and the students have found them useful!
