This is a very detailed worksheet and is ideal for use after reading and discussing chapter 7 with your class. It consists of: * 6 comprehension questions * Vocabulary extension - verbs and adjectives * Dictionary Challenge * Modelling a picture based on the text

The main comprehension is A4 sized and contains 19 questions, giving a total of 25 marks (could be turned into a percentage score!), plus a dictionary challenge. The comprehension could be used as an independent task for Y5/6 children or to use in a guided reading session. The second comprehension task is shorter, containing 10 questions to answer, for a total of 16 marks, plus a reading challenge based on a paragraph from chapter one. Could also be used as an independent activity or as part of a group reading. it is half A4 sized, so I have put two comprehensions on one A4 worksheet.

The pack consists of 4 comprehension worksheets with additional SPAG activities, plus two combined 20 question comprehensions, all written in Word on A4 worksheets. Each of the 4 main worksheets contains 10 questions on the book. The comprehension questions cover the whole book in 4 worksheets. These resources focus on exploring rainforests through literacy and give lots of scope for follow up writing activities! They’re also useful in the study of conservation issues. As some of the language is tricky the comprehensions are mainly suitable for Year 5 and above, but could be a challenge for a bright Year 4 class! Comprehension 1 - consists of a detailed A4 sized text on the Amazon rainforest, including conservation issues. The question sheet is designed to stick in the pupils’ books and includes lesson objectives and 2 differentiated dictionary challenges. There are 16 questions, covering chapters 1 and 2, with 20 marks available, plus a reading challenge which could be used as an extension task. The worksheet could be used as an independent task, for whole class reading / guided reading or as a homework task.

A comprehension activity based on the story of Jonah and the Whale. There are 12 questions and the activity is copied so two pupil sheets fit on one A4 sheet, needing to be trimmed in half. It could be used simply as an aid to discussion or as an independent activity. There is a challenge activity where pupils are asked to draw a scene from the story.

This has 2 self assessments on a piece of A4 so can be cut in half and stuck in the pupils'books, following a piece of writing that you want them to assess themselves.

Pupils have to read through a chapter from Chapter One and find the mistakes, which consist of: • Contractions (for example: theyll = they ’ ll ) • Missing capital letters • Missing full stops

Pupils answer a range of comprehension questions on an A4 landscape worksheet, with 20 marks possible. There is also a reading challenge based on favourite phrases from chapter one, which could be used to stimulate further work or displayed on the Working Wall. Pupils can do this activity independently and will require the book or copies of chapter one.

Pupils have to read a paragraph from chapter one and change the verb tense from present to past tense. The challenge is to carry on the story using past tense. Class discussion on the effect of changing the tense is recommended before attempting the activity!

This is an A4 cloze procedure activity based on the story of Little Red Riding Hood. All the missing spaces must be filled with adjectives of the pupil’s choice. It could be used with Year 3 or 4. It could be a homework task to reinforce the use of good adjectives in writing or as a reading / word level task in class. The extension task asks the pupils to carry on the story using their own amazing adjectives!
