This resource includes questions for the whole of the book ‘Skellig’ - I have used these questions in Guided and Shared Reading, homework and intervention groups. As the chapters are quite short, there are on average 4-6 questions per chapter (obviously some have more). Answers will vary based on the evidence a child provides, therefore this only includes questions.

This PowerPoint leads the children through two extracts from classics (Lord of the Flies and Treasure Island) - there are questions linked to the texts (including vocabulary choices, inference, and summarising the text). Prompts then follow to allow children the chance to still work independently, with clues to the mark allocations. There then follows the mark scheme. This process is repeated for both extracts. There are also two ‘Going deeper’ questions. I have used this with my children in class with great success. Due to the complexity of the text, this can be used with older children.

This includes the teacher led questions for 4 novels, which covers 3 weeks (based on the teacher reading to each group once a week). It will require the children to read certain chapters at home. It also includes some preparation questions and follow-up activities. The texts and questions are aimed at Upper KS2 or Lower KS3. A reading questionnaire that as English Lead have used in my schools to assess the use and coverage of Reading for Pleasure in my school. It comes with an analysis (set to 30 per range, which just needs numbers to be inputted for Pie Charts to change). This was shared as an easy guide with SLT and for future provision to be set.

This was created for a Year 6 class who were studying Skellig as their class novel. There is 4 weeks planning with resources for 3 lessons per week (the children completed practice tests on the other days). The extracts (all copyright to David Almond) and accompanied by an opening questions (3 marks), followed by 4 support questions, then a Greater depth set of questions. It also includes the accompanying Activinspire flipcharts for IWB (a freedown from Google)

This resource is intended to use for teaching Rap Poetry to Y6 - it really captures the interest of boys. There are 8 days planning included, alongside the Activinspire charts for each day, examples of poems to use with the 3 different ability groups, a self assessment grid and pictures. The poems are copyright to the given poets.

It is an A4 ‘Publisher’ document and in PDF, which includes Y5/6 spellings, challenging vocabulary, objectives specifically for Y6, grammar prompts, and planning guidance (along with sentence starters for each suggested paragraph).

This knowledge organiser is based on the Apartheid in South Africa and supports children writing a non-chronological report (this was use in Y4), using the novel ‘Journey to Jo’burg’.
