A complete set of lessons and resources which give feedback on and help students to develop their answers to both English Language papers. For Paper 1, there are slightly amended KS3 and KS4 lessons.
The lessons include starter(s), an explanation of the mark scheme for that question, a WAGOLL, a checklist to meet the success criteria for that question, a slide with the generic question on and sentence starters to help students improve their responses, and a plenary which asks students to reflect on their work.
Resources with the checklists and WAGOLLs are also provided for each separate skill. There is also a language analysis ‘thought process’ sheet for lower ability students, as well as an amended P1 Q5 checklist and WAGOLL for lower ability students.
A complete Scheme of Work of 24 lessons plus 1 assessment lesson.
The Unit of Work is fully resourced with the Word document SoW, a PowerPoint containing the full lessons, with extracts, model paragraphs (WAGOLLS) and the assessment resources.
Starter tasks are 6 spellings with some of these being given as key words for students in subsequent lessons to improve vocabulary and literacy.
A complete lesson with the accompanying resource focusing on narrative and descriptive skills based on A Christmas Carol. The students are given a narrative opener and have to continue it from Jacob Marley’s perspective.
There is also a SPaG and writing development task. As well as a breakdown for weaker students as to how to build up narrative detail.
A series of 7 resourced lessons including a creative writing helpsheet (originally created for middle ability students but can be adapted), and WAGOLLs for both a language and a structure analysis based on the students’ narratives.
The lessons walk the students ‘through’ the factory and gives them the opportunities to break down their plotline and learn how to build up narrative detail. This works well with students who rush their narratives or struggle to think of things to include. There is also a link to sound effects to immerse the students into the factory which helps them ‘hear’ and visualise the setting better and encourage them to include that in their descriptions as well.
A complete lesson with the accompanying resource focusing on narrative and descriptive skills based on An Inspector Calls. The students are given a narrative opener and have to continue it from the Inspector’s perspective.
There is also a SPaG and writing development task. As well as a breakdown for weaker students as to how to build up narrative detail.
