I am a Science Teacher with 25 years experience and love producing resources. As one of my HoD's remarked "Your lesson plans and resources are outstanding, if only you could teach as good as your resources." Chemistry is my main subject, but have an interest in Pedagogy, especially CASE (Cognitive Acceleration through Science Education) and misconceptions and how to overcome them.

Misconceptions In Science UPDATED

(12)
This resource is a booklet with lists of misconceptions, strategies for overcoming them, and quizzes for ascertaining main misconceptions in Forces, Electricity etc. Update: Want to test how many Christmas misconceptions your students have? Try this new free quiz here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/christmas-quiz-free-misconceptions-12448241 It is research based, but written in a practical way and focuses on the use of models, analogies, CASE, interviewing and other strategies. The most useful part I believe is the lists of misconceptions and a comprehensive index of keywords to help you find the common misconception for that topic/keyword. Thank you for making it is one of my most downloaded resources. If you would like to look at my teacher toolkit for misconceptions click here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/misconceptions-teacher-toolkit-resource-12447706 If you would like to run a CPD on misconceptions click here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/science-misconceptions-cpd-12237121 A free activity to identify misconceptions in Forces is here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/identifying-physics-forces-misconceptions-12199581 A complete lesson using ideas for overcoming forces misconceptions is here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/overcoming-forces-misconception-of-normal-and-newton-s-3rd-law-lesson-12210726 Otherwise check out my shop for more free and paid resources at: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/stephenkemp193 Thank you. Update: I have improved the graphics on this since it was made a few years ago. This powerpoint is aimed at KS4 (and higher ability KS3) and helps students to understand what is happening to the ions in solution. It shows sodium ions and chloride ions moving to the electrodes, gaining and losing electrons to become atoms and explaining reduction and oxidation. This is list of 9-1 GCSE grade descriptors based on the type of question that is being asked. It can be used to assess a students understanding by looking at what type of question a student can answer. It is in order of grades and is divided into the main areas that questions are based on: The grade descriptors are 1. Diagrams or Symbols, 2. Uses-Real world or Scientific, 3. Interpreting Data from a Table, Graph or Diagram, 4. Variables, Required Practicals and Working Scientifically, 5. Science Knowledge, Ideas, Models, 6. Science Processes-Recognising, Explaining, Understanding or Applying and 7. Calculations. I have used these to produce a revision sheet for Periodic Table and Atoms from the latest AQA paper. Click here for a free download: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/periodic-table-and-atomic-structure-9-1-grade-descriptor-revision-12231830 I have also produced a more detailed breakdown how the grades link to questions on the 2019 AQA Chemistry Paper (paid resource) here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/grade-descriptor-for-all-chemistry-topics-aqa-12235088 Please comment if you have found this useful. Neutralisation Required Practical Revision

(1)
This Chemistry resource is used with KS4 students. These exam style questions are adapted from AQA past papers and are now individually graded 9-1. It is designed to ask questions on Working Scientifically and the Maths calculations that are involved. It is normally post practical to test students understanding. It can be used in conjunction with the practical, as a revision or homework activity. It can be used with all abilities and comes with answers. This is for students studying AQA Science 2019. It covers practical procedure (WS 2.2), risks, hazards and control (WS 2.4) and reading scales (WS 2.6). It covers the following subjects: Resolution, Range, Accuracy, Risk Assessment, Independent, Dependent and Control variables, Converting between units, Calculating the mean, recognising Anomalous results etc. On the top right-hand corner of the sheet the students can identify areas where they need to improve so that teachers can easily see which section they are having trouble with. For all the Chemistry Practicals (now individually graded) and a help sheet , check out: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/all-aqa-chemistry-required-practical-revision-with-exam-style-questions-and-answers-2019-12197299 For other resources (Biology and Physics versions of these, please check out my shop with free and paid for resources at: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/stephenkemp193 It can be used as part of the required practical in lessons, as a homework or a revision sheet (even a cover lesson with the answer sheets!).
