I am a Science Teacher with 25 years experience and love producing resources. As one of my HoD's remarked "Your lesson plans and resources are outstanding, if only you could teach as good as your resources." Chemistry is my main subject, but have an interest in Pedagogy, especially CASE (Cognitive Acceleration through Science Education) and misconceptions and how to overcome them.

This lesson guides students through how to convert a circuit diagram of a series or parallel circuit into a built one. It starts with circuit symbols, then step by step it shows using photographs how circuits are built from diagrams.
This resource contains:
40+ slide powerpoint with quizzes on symbols and plenary quiz on recognising series and parallel circuits along with photographs and instructions on how to build each circuit
Worksheets with circuit diagrams and photographs
Information sheet for learning the circuit symbols
( I designed this lesson because I and my students wasted a lot of time trying to build more complicated circuits to measure voltage and current-so hopefully time spent here will save time later in other lessons).
I will be publishing more resources on electricity, but in the meantime, if you want a free animation on electricity to help click here:

Thank you for reading this far. Please comment if you have found this resource useful (you do have to buy it first though…)
Update: Lowered the price if you have to teach this topic at this time
This resource of the different electrical models has moving parts to show the students how the model works if they were to see it in real life. It talks about the sweets/matches model, water models (radiator/waterfall), delivery model (coal to Power station) and the ball bearing (chains/rope/dominoes) model and now the Traffic in a City Model. Each model has an animation and asks the students what each part represents and how they can adapt the model to show series/parallel or higher voltage.
I have added a worksheet on each model so that students can evaluate each model on how good it is. A master worksheet for adding your own model and a sheet for students to come up with their own model to help their understanding.
If you want an animation that shows what happens in a circuit that I made for free (so you can see how bad (or good) my animation skills in powerpoint are, click here:

Understanding voltage and current in an electrical circuit in this powerpoint by showing students as close to what happens as possible. If shows the electrons moving being pushed by the battery. The effects of two batteries and the effect of two bulbs.
This is small part of a larger resource on electricity to be published soon. I hope it helps your students have a better understanding.

This free resource is a simple placemat which can be used alongside the GCSE Required Practicals in Science. This organiser is designed to help students before, during or after the required practical activites. It is designed to be used with KS4, but may be used with higher ability KS3. It covers all of AQA’s glossary of key terms and working scientifically that links with the required practcials. It cover approx 40 of the keywords associated with the Required Practical part of the course.
Terms covered: Accuracy, calibration, data, error, measurement error, anomalies, random error, systematic error, zero error, evidence, fair test, hypothesis, interval, precision, prediction, range, repeatable, reproducible, resolution, resolution, sketch graph, true value, uncertainty, validity, valid conclusion, variables, categoric, continuous, control, dependent, independent, risk, hazard and control.
If you want coloured, animated and powerpoint versions of this, with examples for each box (Three included that cover Osmosis, IV Characteristics and Thiosulfate), click here:

Update: Just added Electrical Models Lesson with animations
This misconceptions teacher toolkit is (hopefully) all you need to start you on challenging and overcoming misconceptions in your science lessons. It includes:
A full lesson aimed at KS3 or KS4 which challenges the misconception that solids do not push up and finishes with a 9-1 graded exam question on Newton’s 3rd law. (lasting 1 hour)
Questionnaires for your classes to illicit misconceptions on Earth, Astronomy, Living Things, Magnets, Electricity, Matter and Chemical Reactions
9 different worksheets which use Analogies, CASE, Venn diagrams and Models to overcome misconceptions.
Misconceptions by Topic and Key Stage that can easily be added to PowerPoint’s and/or SoW.
A Word version of the Misconceptions Booklet (so you can take out any bits that you need)
This resource is basically my Misconceptions CPD with the CPD part taken out, which can be found here:
https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/science-misconceptions-cpd-12237121

I hope you find this resource useful.
This is a COVER lesson that can be given to students for home study.
It follows the KS3 AQA Enquiry Processes (skills rather than knowledge) so it can be given off topic as a cover lesson or used yourself.
It includes:
A large main activity sheet (please print both sides onto A3) with an answer sheet if they get stuck (or the supply teacher does…)
A simple Power Point to guide the class through the activities
A straight forward lesson plan with lesson objectives etc.
All files are editable.
Hope you find this useful next time you have a colleague off (or you need a cover lesson to hand in if you’re not in for any reason.) Most of us know that one of the most difficult parts of being a science teacher was being told by your HoD when you arrive, “Miss/Mr X is not in today can you plan his/her Period 1 lesson” (And you haven’t planned yours either!) So here it is, hopefully a lesson that can be given to the supply teacher, with hardly any modifications.
Depends on how this is received I may produce some more of these.
Feel free to check out my shop for more free (and paid) resources:
https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/stephenkemp193
Please comment if you have found this useful, it will spur me on to produce more.
This resource is a complete CPD for staff in science departments. It has everything you need, so that the staff are able to plan effective misconception lessons. This is where misconceptions are exposed, challenged and hopefully overcome.
If contains:
27 page ppt to lead the training
Misconceptions sorted into Topics and Key stages (so they can easily be inserted into SoW)
Full overcoming Forces Misconceptions Lesson (worth £2)
Seven activites for Teachers (interactive or participatory)
Numerous examples of how activities can be incorporated into lessons or lessons adapted to obtain and challenge expectations.
An editable Word version of one of my most downloaded resources (Misconceptions Booklet) so that parts of it can be taken out and used for training.
If you’re looking for a Teacher only Toolkit (it’s basically all the resources here minus the CPD activities) click here:
