I am a teacher of engineering with nearly 10 years experience. I endeavour to produce a range of resources that will help students to really engage with engineering as a subject and later, a profession. My resources are always produced to make it as easy as possible for you to change, edit add and remove content, or you can simply use the resources as they are. My main focus is to give you all of the information you will need to teach a subject, with as little fuss as possible.

Projection Systems

(0)
Resource that gives a thorough description of basic engineering drawing projections. Lots of information included so use these slides to enhance your own lessons. Ideal for a point of reference for students just starting out with technical drawing. Please feel free to chop and change anything in this resource.
Fracture in metals

Fracture in metals

(0)
Information slides that explain how modes of fracture can propagate through a material. Used for information only, I normally take the information from slides as and when I need it. I wouldn't use this to present to a class without putting your own spin on it. Please feel free to cut, paste and chop any part of the resources as you see fit.
Corrosion and Stability of materials resources

Corrosion and Stability of materials resources

(0)
Describes the main ways in which materials will corrode in the environment. Basic resource that gives information and no graphics, images or styles, the idea being that what is here should be developed into your own style. Feel free to use the information for any purpose.
Technical drawing and CAD resources

Technical drawing and CAD resources

7 Resources
Technical drawing resources designed to save some £££. Useful for cover teachers needing resources for an unfamiliar subject. Can be used for the level 3 BTEC in engineering (unit 16) as it will meet most criteria. Please feel free to use resources however you wish and benefit from the excellent activities. See individual packs for more details on activities and sessions.
Materials Revision Sheet

Materials Revision Sheet

(3)
Worksheet placed onto a powerpoint slide, revises properties of materials, electron configuration and the periodic table. Good to use as a starter activity or as a quick quiz, for use it can be printed as it is or printed as an a3 sheet. Feel free to chop, change, cut or paste anything you might find useful.
Engineering forming methods revision pack.

Plastics and Moulding

(1)
Powerpoint handout and plastics overview sheet for inection moulding. Can be used to reinforce and revise during BTEC courses in engineering. Feel free to cut and paste to suit yourself.
Abrasive Wheels

Abrasive Wheels

(0)
Abrasive wheels information. Delivered some time ago, but information is still relevant under law and useful from a teaching standpoint. May need to be adjusted to suit your individual style of teaching and the area of engineering that you teach. Feel free to cut, paste and change whatever you wish in order to suit yourself.
Safety signs starters

Safety signs starters

(0)
Starter activities used to teach low level (1 and 2) engineering students about the different signs in use. I found it best to have a workshop available with all appropriate signs being used, for the students to use as research. Feel free to cut, paste and chop anything to suit your own needs.
Health and Safety Definitions of Terms

Health and Safety Definitions of Terms

(0)
A revision resource showing the definitions of many terms in Health and Safety covered by BTEC and City and Guilds courses. I put them onto a PPT for ease of access but I wouldn't deliver the powerpoint to a class without significant changes. I also have these slides on our Moodle system for the students to use as a pure revision resource, and also as a source of information they can easily use when producing written work.
Measuring using micrometers and Vernier Callipers

Measuring using micrometers and Vernier Callipers

(0)
A worksheet introducing students to measurement using engineering tools. First section describes the methods used to measure using the micrometer, the second section describes measurement using the vernier scale. Both sections are complete with some sample activities to test the students knowledge. I would use the worksheet along with the actual measuring tools so the students can handle the equipment as they work, this will reinforce their learning. It will be helpful for a teacher who already knows how to read both scales to teach as it will require some explanation to support the work.
Drilling area posters

Drilling area posters

(0)
Posters made to occupy the walls around pillar drills. They show drillbit geometries, clamping methods and all three mention safety. All posters are on A3 paper and look great when laminated. Feel free to change anything that you don't like or wish to adjust.
Sheet Metal Pattern Development

Sheet Metal Pattern Development

(0)
Pattern development worksheet, has templates and demonstrates how sheet metal workers produce patterns before folding metals. Designed to be completed in a classroom using paper, but can be used for a range of other subjects that involve manipulating 3D shapes. Feel free to cut and paste any of the activities for your own style of sessions.
Sheet Metal Working Theory
stevegowansstevegowans

Sheet Metal Working Theory

(0)
A basic overview of calculating the K-factor or bend allowance applied to sheet metal before pattern development and folding takes place. Simply written to aid understanding, a lot of the information used is theory and not regularly applied in the workshop, however trainee and apprentice sheet metal workers will be assessed on the theory. feel free to cut, paste and use anything here for any other purpose.
Engineering Drawing introductory activities
stevegowansstevegowans

Engineering Drawing introductory activities

(0)
Basic, low level activities designed to give students confidence in reading and producing their own drawings in engineering. Starter activity is for students to identify the correct views. Drawing activities are for the students to convert isometric to orthographic projection, using guide lines - (you may need to adjust the contrast of your printer before printing, I had a small issue but it was fixed with a bit of adjustment) Feel free to chop, change and paste whatever you like to suit your own style.
Health and Safety introduction.

Health and Safety introduction.

(0)
Engineering based health and safety intro for fairly low level students - Level 1/2 Explains the meanings behind COSHH, HASAWA and asks students to find risks in three photographs. Handy for a cover teacher to use to introduce health and safety theory. Feel free to change, cut and paste to suit yourself.
COSHH in Engineering session

COSHH in Engineering session

(2)
Powerpoint and activities to fit an hours session, more or less depending on the level of students. Teacher will need to have knowledge of some of the materials used in the categories of COSHH. Described from an engineering perspective. Feel free to cut, paste and use the resources for any other purpose.
