Phonics - The long and short vowel Phoneme Families complete set

16 Resources
Meet all 20 short and long vowel families that children are taught in Reception and Key Stage One. Each family wears clothes which are coloured to support grapheme phoneme correspondence. The long vowel ‘ee’ family all wear green. All the CEW for year 1 and year 2 are included as well as spelling rules which apply from English appendix 1. Each powerpoint is designed to be used across year groups depending on your phonics teaching. They each contain at least a weeks worth of phonics teaching. Each character tells you about its grapheme and uses sounds spots to support reading and spelling. Once children are familiar with the family they can explore best bet rules and then apply their learning by using the dictated sentences also within the powerpoint. Two copies are included, one which uses my preferred font of Letterjoin and one with comic sans. Also included is planning, starters and word mats.

Printed images of British coins to use as a bank in a role-play area, coins are matched with the pictures and stored there, the banker is in charge of making sure the correct coins and amount of coins are there at the end of the day. Numicon type images are used to reinforce the value of the coins to support addition and giving change.

Two Spelling mats arranged in phoneme families and displaying CEW in bold. One for year 1 and one for year 2. There are two copies one in letter join font and the other in comic sans. Both the year 1 and year 2 mats also include print outs for children to take home and practise spelling.

The Word Wizards are a group of wizards who explain word types and their jobs to children. In this presentation you will meet Norbert Noun and his newt named Neil who together explain the difference between a proper and a common noun and the need for a capital letter. They also explain the plural rules and have some handy suffix spells to help children remember as well as this children learn about noun phrases.
