A slideshow for supporting children with quick recall of the graphemes for both the long and short sounds a, e, i, o and u. The graphemes are presented in phoneme families and have the phoneme family character present to support children with recalling the correct phoneme. I remind children of the family name to help them remember e.g. "This is the Grey family all their graphemes make the sound ‘ai’ . The first slides are all short vowel sounds.

Meet all the graphemes for KS1 that make the ‘ai’ sound. They’re the Grey family and like to dress in grey to reinforce their ‘ai’ sound. All the CEW for year 1 and year 2 with this phoneme in are included as well as spelling rules which apply from English appendix 1. The powerpoint is designed to be used across year groups depending on your phonics teaching. Each character tells you about its grapheme and uses sounds spots to support reading and spelling. Once children are familiar with the family they can explore best bet rules and then apply their learning by using the dictated sentences also within the powerpoint. Two copies are included, one which uses my preferred font of Letterjoin and one with comic sans.

These stickers can be printed onto Avery L7060 . They are designed to be given to children when they have demonstrated one of the learning styles associated with the Growth Mind-set characters. The stickers say "Ask me why I'm like...", which encourages parents and adults to enquire about the child's learning and the child to talk about the difficulties they may face in their learning and how they have over come these difficulties.
