I'm currently teaching 8th grade Spanish. I have taught all levels of Spanish, from kindergarten to high school, at various times in the past 17 years. I have a BA in Spanish and International Relations from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, IL, and an MA in Spanish Language and Culture from the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain. My shop includes all types of resources for Spanish and French, as well as materials for English Language Arts and ELL.

Spanish Family PowerPoint Project - Students love this project! They enjoy creating the family projects on the computer, presenting their projects in class and viewing the PowerPoint presentations created by their classmates so they get a lot of practice with family vocabulary and grammar. Students must create a 6 slide presentation that includes information on birthdays, age, physical and personality descriptions and the verbs gustar and encantar for likes and dislikes. They get substantial practice with the verbs tener and ser. The project contains the following: 1. Grading criterion 2. Vocabulary bank 3. Explanations on how to properly state age, birthdays, physical and personality descriptions, language for introductions, gustar and encantar usage 4. Computer codes for Spanish accents and punctuation 5. Sample family descriptions 6. Project explanation This is a great culminating project for a unit on family and also makes a great substitute activity. Three to four days in the computer lab is usually sufficient to complete the project. Your students will have fun and reap many benefits from it!

Spanish Family Matching Squares Puzzle - Family and Pets - Familia - Students assemble a 4 x 4 bilingual Spanish/English vocabulary puzzle with common family and pets words. There are 23 different words used in the puzzle. Sample words are madre, padre, hermanos, padrastro, bisabuela, gato, mascota y perro. Just photocopy enough for a class set (1 for every 2 students if working in pairs, or 1 per student if working alone), cut and fasten with a paper clip. Distribute to students and challenge them to reassemble the puzzles as quickly as possible. All words are listed alongside the puzzle in Spanish and English. This list is helpful when students are assembling the puzzles and also makes a good review list or bookmark. 2 pages

Spanish Family Matching Squares 2 Puzzles - 9 Square Basic Words - Students assemble a 3 x 3 bilingual Spanish/English vocabulary puzzle with basic family words. There are 14 different words used in the puzzle. Words used are madre, padre, hermano, hermana, tío, tía, abuelo, abuela, bebé, mamá, papá, primo, prima, and familia. The 2 designs include 1 with no repeated words and no words on the outside border, and 1 with repeated words and words on the outside border for a more challenging puzzle. Just photocopy enough for a class set (1 for every 2 students if working in pairs, or 1 per student if working alone), cut and fasten with a paper clip. Distribute to students and challenge them to reassemble the puzzles as quickly as possible. All words are listed twice alongside the puzzle in Spanish and English. Spanish Family Human Bingo Game Speaking Activity and Follow-Up Assignment - This activity provides practice asking questions with tener and family vocabulary. Each student mingles with a bingo grid and must find different classmates that can reply yes when asked about the information in one of the 16 boxes. Each box contains a statement about a family member. A sample statement is "A mi padre le gusta jugar al golf." When a student replies yes to a question, the questioning student follows up by asking in Spanish for the student's signature. The goal is to be the first student to fill the entire bingo grid. Also included is a follow up worksheet that requires students to: 1. Write a sentence for each of the 16 boxes in the grid. The student includes the name of the student that signed the box and must change the verb to the third person. 2. Write an appropriate family word under 6 images at the bottom of the paper. This activity works well with students learning family vocabulary, and it's a good back to school review activity for experienced Spanish students.
