I'm currently teaching 8th grade Spanish. I have taught all levels of Spanish, from kindergarten to high school, at various times in the past 17 years. I have a BA in Spanish and International Relations from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, IL, and an MA in Spanish Language and Culture from the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain. My shop includes all types of resources for Spanish and French, as well as materials for English Language Arts and ELL.

Spanish Comparative Adjectives with Family Fill in the Blank and Sentences

Students practice Spanish unequal comparative adjectives with Spanish family and pets vocabulary. There are 14 sentences total, 10 sentences that use más + adjective + que, and 4 sentences that use menos + adjective + que. Students fill in the blank with the comparative adjectives, and then provide the English translation for each. A sample sentence is: Mis mascotas son ____ (cooler than) sus mascotas. Sample adjectives include estricto, feo, extraño, alto, bonito, and inteligente. The answer key is included. 2 pages

Students assemble a 4 x 4 Spanish/English vocabulary puzzle with 27 different nature and geography related words. Sample words are: antiplano, arroyo, bosque, cascada, frontera, mar, montaña, playa, río, selva tropical, sierra, valle, and volcán. Most words are repeated which makes the puzzle more challenging. Just photocopy enough for a class set (1 for every 2 students if working in pairs, or 1 per student if working alone), cut and fasten with a paper clip. Distribute to students and challenge them to reassemble the puzzles as quickly as possible. There is a list of all words alongside the puzzle in Spanish and English. This can be used as a vocabulary bookmark and reference. 2 pages

Spanish Winter Activities Human Bingo Speaking Activity - Each student mingles with a bingo grid and must find different classmates that can reply yes to each of the 16 boxes. The grids contain questions such as, "Patinas sobre hielo con tu familia o tus amigos?" Examples of other verbs used are montar, ir, pescar, tener, hacer, jugar, ver, esquiar and caminar. When a student replies yes to a question, the interviewing student follows up by asking in Spanish for the student's signature. Several squares have a second question such as "con quien?" which gives both students additional speaking practice. When a student fills the entire grid, he shouts, "Bingo!" Also included are suggestions for using the Human Bingo activity and a follow up written assignment.

This is a fun and creative end of the year activity! Each of the 2 booklets contains 8 pages: the title page with 7 additional pages containing memories of the past school year. Examples are: My favorite game, my favorite book, my team, and my favorite day. One booklet contains text and images, and the other contains text only so students can sketch and create their own versions of the booklets. Also included are suggestions for using the booklets and an assembly instruction page. Students first cut, assemble and read the booklet containing text and illustrations. They then create their own versions of the booklets using the text only template. The illustration version can be projected in class to present, review and practice pronunciation of the vocabulary words. The text only version can be projected onto the Smart Board and students can draw pictures that correspond to the text.

Each grid contains the question "Quieres ser" plus a profession and "en el futuro". When a student replies yes to a question, the questioning student follows up by asking in Spanish for the student's signature. When a student fills the entire grid, he shouts, "Bingo!" Also included is a follow up worksheet that requires students to: 1. Write a sentence for each of the 16 boxes in the grid. The student includes the name of the student that signed the box and must change the verb to the third person. 2. Provide the English meaning of each profession. 3. Write an appropriate Spanish profession word under 6 images at the bottom of the paper. This is a great back to school speaking review activity for students with prior Spanish experience.
