This extract from Harry Potter describes Albus Dumbledore arriving on Privet Drive. The task is for the pupils to read the passage and pick out all the descriptions of the character. Based on the descriptions the pupils need to draw the character as best they can. As a class, agree which descriptions need to be included and then person (or people) with the closest drawing ‘wins’!

These cards can be cut up and played like traditional charades. This can be used as an introduction or fast finisher to allow the pupils to identify the verbs and adverbs. Turn over the cards and ask the pupils to add in some of their own ideas.
