All of the patterns are shown with linking cubes (unifix, unlink, connecting cubes). The only colours you need for copying the pattern, continuing the pattern, and identifying the missing cube(s) are: red, blue, green, yellow. If you don’t have cubes you can use an alternative such as coloured counters, counting bears, etc.
New Zealand Handwriting – Countries
NZ handwriting copy cards.
A-Z of countries around the world.
Each card contains lower/upper case letter formation, the name of a country, 1-2 sentences about that country, and numbers 0-9.
There are no countries that start with the letter X. Mexico has been used on this card as it contains the letter x.
The font used is ‘NZ Basic Script’. The letter/number shapes are the same as those recommended in the NZ Ministry of Education Handbook – ‘Teaching Handwriting’.

Cards are A5 size. There are two cards per A4 page.
A great way to learn about other countries while practising handwriting. If you have a number of devices, early finishers could then move on to researching more facts about the country.

New Zealand Essential Spelling Words - clip and flip cards
New Zealand Essential Spelling Words (Lists 1-4).
‘Clip and Flip’ cards – look at the word frame and decide which word fits the frame. Place a peg on that word. Flip the card over and see if you are correct!
You can use these cards as a literacy centre activity. Alternatively you can use them in the form of a ‘scavenger hunt’ or playing ‘hot potato’ - instructions included.
Note: These cards do not have the answer indicated on the back. This is something you will need to do before laminating. The easiest way is just to place a sticker or a coloured pencil dot in the correct location (top, middle, bottom). The answer sheets are included so this should only be a 2 minute task.

Maori Handwriting Copy Cards
Handwriting cards for the Māori alphabet.

The font used is the 'New Zealand Basic Script'. The letter shapes are identical to those recommended in the NZ Ministry of Education Handbook - ‘Teaching Handwriting’.
Laminate the cards. Students look at the card and copy one line of each letter/word into their exercise book.
30 cards in total - 2 cards for each letter.
A5 size (2 cards per A4 size paper)

Māori Numbers 1-20 - 'Clip and Flip' cards
‘Clip and Flip’ cards for Māori Numbers 1-20
A fun, hands-on activity for reinforcing the knowledge and recall of numbers 1-20.
Instructions:
Count how many ladybirds are on the front of the card. Read the words on the right. Match the Māori word with the number of ladybirds and place a clothes peg on that word. Flip the card over to see if you are correct. Take the peg off and try again with another card.
Note:
The cards do not come with the answer on the back so you will need to place a mark on the reverse side of the card. Just use something like a sticker or make a mark with a coloured pencil. Do this before you laminate the cards.

Māori Colours - 'clip and flip' cards
‘Clip and Flip’ cards for 11 Māori colours.

Each card contains 6 words that begin with a common blend, digraph or trigraph.

• Write a sentence (or two) that contains all 6 words.
• Brainstorm a list of additional words after completing the card.

New Zealand Sight Words – ‘Park the car’ activity
A set of ‘Park the car’ activity sheets for sight words from magenta to orange.
A great hands-on literacy activity that will engage many of your students (particularly your boys).
* Words are written with the NZ Basic Script font.
* Car parks are provided in both colour and black/white. (see photos)
* Two blank templates are provided for you to make up your own car park of words.
* You will need to provide your own toy cars, however there are some included that you can print, cut and laminate if necessary.
This activity can be played and adapted to however works best for you and your students. Two examples are:
♦ Students play in pairs and take alternate turns. Person A says “Park your car on the word did”. Person B ‘drives’ their toy car and parks on the word. Person A checks and confirms if it was correct parking or not. Students could receive a ’point’ for each one they get correct or you could simply make it non-competitive.
♦ Students play in pairs and take alternate turns. Person A drives their car into a space and says “I parked my car on the word did”. Person B checks and replies “True” or “False”. The person parking the car can try to trick the other player.
• More than one car park can be lined up to make it more challenging.
• You can send a ‘car park’ home with your students as an alternate way of reinforcing sight word learning at home.
• For reluctant readers they may feel more encouraged to participate if they get to bring in a toy car from home to use. Perhaps link it to a writing activity as well.
• It doesn’t have to be a toy car … it could be a truck, motorbike, horse etc.
High frequency words align to the NZ reading colour wheel:

How to Play:
1. Player A rolls the dice.
2. Player A looks at the dice picture on the left side of the board and works out the required sum.

4-in-a-row Gameboards
♦ Game 1 – recognising dotty patterns on a dice.
♦ Game 2 – matching a dotty dice picture with a numeral.
♦ Game 3 – matching a numeral with a picture of a dotty dice.
Game 1 – Dotty Dice:
A game for 2 players. Take alternate turns. You need one dotty dice and you each need counters (a different colour to your partner). Roll the dice. Find it on the gameboard and cover the picture with a counter. You win if you get 4 of your counters in a row.
Game 2 – Dice and Numeral Match:
A game for 2 players. Take alternate turns. You need one dotty dice and you each need counters (a different colour to your partner). Roll the dice. Look at the dots on the dice and find the numeral on the gameboard. Cover the numeral with a counter. You win if you get 4 of your counters in a row.
Game 3 – Numeral and Dotty Dice Match:

Easter Fun - Secret Code Wheel
A super-fun activity for your students during Easter. Make the secret code wheel and use it to decipher some Easter jokes. Then use the secret code wheel to write your own secret messages.
Included:

How it works:
Turn the inner wheel so that the ‘code ear’ is pointing to the letter of the alphabet that you see in the mystery code writing. Look at the letter of the alphabet that the ‘answer ear’ is pointing to and write it down. Continue in this way until all of the letters in the mystery code have been deciphered.
What you need:
All you need is a split pin (otherwise known as a brad pin), or alternatively just use a push-pin and attach it to a pin board or something soft like an eraser. It works fine with paper if you don’t have a supply of card.

Colour Identification - 4 in a row gameboard
Practise your colour identification with these 3 gameboards.

The Game: 4-in-a-row:
♦ Instructions and gameboards included.
♦ All you need is a dice and some counters.
♦ Suitable for 2 players.
How to play:
