This FREE Editing Marks can be used the next time you want students to edit their own writing. The editor’s marks will be helpful when students are editing themselves. It will also be helpful when someone else has edited them and they’ll know what to change in their writing from the marks given. There are also some friendly reminders at the bottom of the sheet for students to check their work. You can also copy and place this page in the students’ writing folders. Students can pull this out the next time they need to edit a paper or make corrections using the symbols. You can also copy this page and post it on your writing bulletin board for friendly reminders. Send this copy home for parents to help their child edit their work. These editing marks below are the most commonly used in a primary setting. It is not a complete list of marks or symbols.

You can use the task cards along with a white board, scratch paper, or writing journal to record answers. The task cards will help students generate inferences by looking at a picture and then putting those thoughts down on paper. The Materials in this Pack include: • 24 Task Cards with Inference Writing prompts • 24 Recording Sheets (in thirds) Ideas on how to use the writing prompts: • Use the colored task cards along with the recording sheet at a writing center. Students write what they infer about each picture.
