Brainteasers - Series 1 - Bundle 6 - Form / Tutor Time Quiz Activity

(0)
Brainteasers - Series 1 - Bundle 6 There are 6 Bundles in Series 1. Each Bundle contains 6 Brainteaser quizzes. A bundle of 6 Brainteasers is designed as a once a week half termly form time activity. A Bundle should take 6 weeks - roughly a half term. All 6 of my Bundles should see you through a school year if used once a week as a form time activity. All elements of the Brainteaser activities have educational links ranging from English, Science, Maths, Geography, PSHE to Problem-solving and more! They have been designed for students to work in groups (i would advise groups of 3) this to encourage teamwork, cooperation, communication skills and many more interpersonal skills. The Brainteasers are designed to be completed within a 12 minute time frame as per the timer (delete if necessary). This should allow for the marking and scoring within form time. Typically form time is about 20 minutes so plenty of time after the 12 minutes to mark, score and discuss some of the other areas of the Brainteaser. Word of the week: Define key word. Put the word correctly into a sentence. Correct definition = 2 points; Correct sentence = 2 points Word finder: List as many words as possible using the letters provided. Within your list of words can you find the answer words. 4 words = 4 points; 3 words = 3 points; 2 words = 2 points; 1 word = 1 point Mental maths: Correctly answer the given maths questions without a calculator. 4/4 correct = 4 points; 3/4 correct = 3 points; 2/4 correct = 2 points; 1/4 correct = 1 points Name that element: Correctly name the element. 2 correct elements = 4 points; 1 correct element = 2 points Flags: Correctly names the country and capital. 4/4 correct = 4 points; 3/4 correct = 3 points; 2/4 correct = 2 points; 1/4 correct = 1 point Catchphrase: Say what you see! correct phrase = 4 points Riddle: Solve the riddle. correct answer = 4 points Thought of the week: Formulate a response to the question, share with the class. Teacher discretion – depending on quality of answer: Outstanding = 4 points; Very good = 3 points; Good = 2 points; Satisfactory = 1 point Link to BBC Newsround Resource includes: How to play - explains how each element of the Brainteaser activities are played. How to score - explains how each element of the brainteaser activities are scored. Exemplar slides - Brainteaser question slide, answer slide. Brainteaser Leaderboard - An excel spreadsheet that allows you to collect student (team) scores weekly for each half term and accumulate scores in a ranked leaderboard style table. Record all student groups for each half term so that you can fairly mix the teams up at the start of each half term so to encourage students to work with others. A Hall of Fame, a sheet to record winners and runners up each half term - great for motivating students! Do Now Retrieval Practice - Cops & Robbers

(1)
Do Now Retrieval Practice - Cops & Robbers. Cops and Robbers combines retrieval practice with communication skills and working with others. The ‘Cops’ column is for students to write as much as they can from memory about a specific topic, or previously-covered material in a set amount of time. Once the students have had the set time to write as much as they can from memory they then have to complete the ‘Robbers’ section. This is where everyone in the class needs to get out of their seats and read their peers work, swapping and sharing their ideas and content. Students will often read another student’s ‘Cop’ column and see information that they forgot or didn’t have time to include. When this happens they should add that extra information to their ‘Robbers’ column. It is not designed to be competitive but instead focus on recall and working with others. Resource includes - Fully worked example slides. Editable question slide template - set your own subject specific tasks. Editable answer slide template.   Set your own time limit - timers included.   All information and instructions are in the slide notes.
