This Human Fetal Growth Lab can be used as part of a reproduction unit in Anatomy, Biology or Life Science classes. Students will cover the following in this lab:
• Development of the length of a human fetus
• Development of the mass of a human fetus
• Graphing the mass and length of a developing fetus
• Brainstorm ideas about factors that affect the development of a fetus
• Create a flyer or hand out to give a pregnant woman on the “Do’s and Don’ts” for a healthy fetus
This lab is very flexible as it will work for any level student from English Learner - EL - to more advanced students. This lab usually lasts for 1 to 2 days depending on the level of your students and how much time you devote to discussion and handout creation. There are many text dependent questions for your students to research and cite their evidence of where they found the information, a vocabulary section, and some essential questions where your students can apply the knowledge they have learned at a deeper, higher level. We encourage you to have your students use a wide variety of resources to gather the necessary information to complete this report.
