Differential Equations - A level - teaching resource

(1)
These resources are intended to be used for teaching and learning activities for A level, comprising of: Presentation- includes the materials of the entire lesson of differential equations (A level). Problem card - four different A level past paper problems Learning objectives: Students understand how to form differential equations from given problems. Students can solve ordinary differential equations and interpret the results. The problem card can be used to check student understanding whereas students are given an opportunity to work on the problems independently or in groups. Their solutions are to be presented on a piece of paper. If they have finished the work, the paper should be pasted on a wall (separate places) and each student should give feedback (“what went well” and “even better if”), can be using post-it notes. After finished with all procedures, the the students (or group) can take their paper along with the feedback and reflect on it.

Set notation and Venn diagrams

(0)
Designed for Year 9 (Secondary 3) students undergoing IGCSE extended maths curriculum, discussing sets and Venn diagrams. The word problems can be used as and idea for gallery walk/station walk, whereas the ppt Venn Diagrams can be used to make a quiz with the entire class. Mainly, it focuses on the region covered in Venn diagrams in relation to certain set notation and operation.
Numerical solutions of equations A level

Numerical solutions of equations A level

(0)
Designed for A level curriculum, whereas this includes: power point presentation containing the entire chapter excel file containing one example from the ppt, to show to students how the iteration procedure is carried out. Particularly, the excel file will be useful to show the iterative procedure to the students. The learning objectives: understand the idea of a sequence approximations which converges to a root of an equation understand how a given simple iterative formula relates to the equation being solved, and use a given iteration, or an iteration based on a given rearrangement of an equation, to determine a root to a prescribed degree of accuracy. use technology to help understand iteration

The resources comprise of handout and the explorations of problems to start a lesson. The explorations of problems are intended to let the students discuss problems and then we as the teacher facilitate the discussion from the problems.

Functions and Transformations - As Level

(0)
Power point slides on Functions and Transformations for As level topic. The slides are divided into two different parts. One focuses on the functions (basic concepts, inverse, composite, etc.) and another focuses on the transformations of functions (stretch, reflection, translation).
Angle and Basic Geometry

Functions and Transformations - As Level - PBL

(0)
A set of problems related to Functions and Transformations, particularly for As level mathematics. Self-made problems by considering Low Floor, High Ceiling concept to jump start discussions to introduce a topic. This could be used to teach: Concept of notation Mapping, relation, function Graph of a function Function as a connection to algebra and sequence Inverse function - visual Transformations of functions Best used prior to introducing any method or mathematical concepts to students. Let the students explore and collaborate one another. After some explorations, when needed, students may ask us as the facilitators to introduce the necessary mathematical methods or concepts that could help them solve the problems.
