Child completes the compound words by adding the two separate words together. Can be printed on white/coloured card or paper and laminated for year-to-year use. Jigsaws: laminate and cut-out, colour coded; child sorts out the compound words and writes them, moves on to the next set on their table.

Phase 6 table cards power-point for 'ing' words - three spelling rules: 1. Just add 'ing'; 2. Double the last letter if there's a short vowel just before it, and then add 'ing'; 3. Children have to look at the picture, say what it is, listen to the first 'blend' and spell the word with its correct 'blend grapheme. Phase 6: ppt and table cards [including a set of cards with Sassoon font] for past tense ‘ed’ words - four rules: 1. just add ‘ed’; 2. double the last letter if there’s a short vowel just before it, and then add ‘ed’; 3. if the words ends in an ‘e’, just add a ‘d’; 4. if the word ends in a ‘y’, change the ‘y’ for an ‘i’ and then add 'ed. Can be printed on card or laminated for group work.
